to much EGT/ RX 7 FC Turbo II

Hey at all,

at the first, sorry for my bad english, i am from Austria

so and now my problem,

i have an FC Turbo II / S4 which is build in 1987.

I have done some technological changes.

Here what i have changed:
  1. T04 Turbo
  2. 3" Exhaust system
  3. 800cc Secundär Injections
  4. e-Fan
  5. Water Radiator upgrade
  6. HKS FCD
  7. Apexi SAFC
  8. new spark plugs(NGK BUR 9 EQ, Leading and Trailing)
  9. new fuel pump 255
  10. stock ECU (N344)

gauges: EGT, Wideband Lambda, Oil Pressure, Oil Temp, boost presure

and mine problem is too high temperatur(EGT)
i start the engine and after 2 min running without driving i get 1650F.
Than i switch of the engine because i think this is not ok...

i see on the wideband lambda that it runns too rich ( 13.8 to 1) better than too lean at beginning, or not?

The ignition i have controlled, the timming is ok...all spark plugs are working

If you need some other information, pleace tell me...
pleace help me because i have no concept....
Thanks a lot and i hope you understand that....

Where is the EGT prove located? is it in the exhaust manifold or after the turbo, in the downpipe? Did the gauge ever read a lower number, and then just suddenly read this high one day? There's a chance your gauge or the probe is bad. What brand is it?

How do you know the timing is ok? Did you put a timing light on it? Does the engine have the original crank pulley on there?

Does the exhaust manifold look hot? Is it glowing? Do you smell anything? If it were really running that hot there would be other signs. For example, there's a good chance that all the hoses and wires nearby would start heating up and possibly melt. I have seen 1600+ F exhaust temperatures but only at 7000 rpm under boost. Most of the time idle is between 700-1000 degrees.

Do you have one of those infrared temperature gauge things? The one you point at something and it gives you a temperature?

yes it is so....

the car is cold and standing, then i start the engine and hold 2000 rpm for 1 min ,no driving---- then the manifold glows-->EGT= 2000 F (1250°C).. thats not normal...

I am just helpless in little Austria

Some datalogs from your engine management would help, plus a video would be good. It's hard to diagnose something on the internet.

ok i have checked the NEW EGT Gauge once more and you are right---> the sensor is damage..(i am an idiot but i don´t belive that a new gauge is damage)
BUT is it possible that a cheep manifold from UK is glowing at normal EGT?

Thanks!!!

If its glowing at idle, that means ignition timing is too retarded. Thinner wall tubing will glow faster than thicker stuff. Idle egts should be 800-1000 deg F.

For pretty accurate timing without a light, line the yellow notch up with the Point on the front cover and pop the CAS cover.
It should look like the attached picture if your timing is correct, if it doesn't, loosen the bolt and turn it until it does.
