This would probably get more attention in the 2nd gen forum

Well, I got to 130 in my stock 91 TII, but I ran outa road; i'm too paranoid to try it on a interstate where I could go higher...what's a guy to do

Hammer the gas and find out yourself! Trust me, you'll love the feeling of WOT. Hell I ran my old FC up to 120 + before my rear rotor ( sp? ) seals blew on me. Long story...

140, but that was in my 89 GTU. I had cone filter and gutted cats and that was it.

I havent been daring enough to take my 90 GTU past 125. The tires really suck and are a little out of balance. I think I could hit 150+ though if I really tried.

I agree with running it up yourself. My friend has a 91 N/A and he says that it can do about 120+, I had the car up to 100, and it didn't have anymore. My 89 TII had a great run a number of times on a wide open stretch of road and I buried the speedometer at 160. I was flying down the road, but that was after a few mods to it. Anyway, I would say about 125, but I would find out yourself.

I hit 100 in 3rd gear one day... shifted to 5th, and it was still flying!! .... but ran outta road I estimate it'll do ~135 +/- 10mph

I think stock max for your car was around 130....
mine is supposed to be 138..

I have taken mine to 120 and backed down. It was still pulling quite nicely. Perhaps one day I'll get the nerve to take it higher.

my 86 gages the speedometer will go almost all the way back around to 0 but where it stops is 180mph. and in my drive way with no wheels or rotors i put it in 5th and revd it to redline (7,000) and it was just little short of that 180.

I got a stock 87 GXL to 130 then let off. I still had a good amount of rpms to go too. Oh, it was an auto too. That was with overdrive on. Probably not good for the tranny, gets a little hot like that.

A 87 NA did 7500 rpm in forth gear on a uphill grade of about 15 degrees, INTERSTATE 20 out of Fort Worth. A couple of tractor trailer rigs in the way kept me from 8000 and a blown engine. Suggest when doing this to do it on deserted roads and well balanced and rated tires. Full Racing Beat exaust. duals all the way. The wife tells me that the law will take you to the pokey if you get caught doing over 100. Old wives tale? Going downhill does not count in this game. Level ground or upgrade only.

Not likely. The fastest NA cars around are likely the Speedsource RX7s raced in SCCA in the southeast. They have very powerful engines (unported) w/ stainless custom exhaust and lots of dyno time, 5.13 gears, GTUs 5th gear (.756), and sticky Hoosier tires. These cars will run about 145 mph at Daytona during a typical race weekend. That is just shy of redline (8600 rpm) in 5th gear.

Going with the 4.88 doesn't do any good as the car hits an aerodynamic wall at that speed. For a car to top 150 mph, it would need a serious injection of horsepower. And the Speedsource cars are rumored to have over 200 hp already. Only porting or forced induction would help.

I realize that most of you only have your speedometers to judge your speed by. However, most OEM speedos are hopelessly optimistic over 120 mph. That's not your fault, it's all you have to go by. Just remember when looking at your speedo..."Don't believe everything you read!!!"

I've had my NA FC past the 150 and my FD past 180 mph on highspeed runs. I've got some good video of me doing a run up to 130, and another up to 140 on the highway. When I get my computer up and running again I'll post the videos!

My '86 N/A got up to about 127 if not higher or lower while on alligator alley (in florida, i-75 east west from naples to ft lauderdale) and then im just cruisin at 100 and this fucknut decided he wanted to be a hemmorage on my *** and i sped up a lil just to get him off and then POWW there goes my rear tire and my car does a 180 into the middle part between traffic and come within inches of the other side.... when i finally stopped it looked like i only pulled over to the side with a blown tire. but the tire marks on the grass r indications that it wasnt just pullin over lol..... this near death experience hasnt stopped me from the need for speed, but i wouldnt touch that highway for another 2 months. That's the last mistake i make with my car, it has a small dent between the rear tire and bumper from the tread coming out, i wish i had pics to post up of it. Well, looks like ill find out what it's top speed is after i put some aftermarkets and mods to it.
