Sometimes no signs at all, sometimes she'll run better than ever...

Why don't you perform a compression check if you're worried about it?

Man, could be a couple of things, alternator bearing, or one of the pulleys, air pump, or maybe the needle bearings behind the front bolt. Kind of hard to guess without being there

there is nothing on the car that would be 'extreme' or expensive.

two worst things that could happen to any car is

a. engine explodes
b. transmission explodes

if ur engine goes, get it rebuilt for 1k at RR and swap it back in
if ur tranny goes, get a used one for a few hundred and swap it in

theres a huge amount of DIY info out there. not to mention the quantity of junkyard / aftermarket replacement parts available.
