Smile FC motor mount questions...

Hey, this is the first time i am posting in the FC section so hi to everyone here! (i usually live in the 3rd gen, and 20b section ) anyway, i came here to ask for some info on your motor mounts. im doing a 20b conversion in my FD.. the new subframe that i bought (to adapt the 20b to my car) requires shorter motor mounts than FD ones, so that the engine clears the hood. i was told that the 1st gen ones are the shortest, and i believe FC next shortest. so my questions for you guys are:

A) how much is a stock set of new FC mounts?

B) are there any aftermarket urethane replacements for your mounts? i know that mazdaspeed makes some competition ones... and thats definatly an option.

*and most importantly* C) if i decide to make my own mounts out of urethane... what are the dimensions of your passengers, and drivers side mounts?? really i think i just need the height's, and from that i could possibly make a set myself. FD mounts seem to not vibrate too much if made out of urethane (but they are taller, so i think they would "give" more than shorter ones). also (if i remember correctly) FD mounts are not the same heights for pass. and driver sides... is this the same for the FC??

and any other recomendations are welcome. nice to meet you all ! -Heath

Hey Heath, hanging out over here huh? As far as the mounts go. I have a set of stock mounts i will give you if you like them. I replaced ours with Scalliwags solid aluminum mounts. They are awsome. No drive line flex at all and vibration is hardly a issue. This is in my GF;s FC that she drives every day. so I would hear about it if it were bad.

I can measure the dimensions of the AL mounts tomorrow for you. They are the same for the passenger and drivers side. The only difference between the 2 are that the passenger side bolts to a aluminum arm( similar to the FD;s) The drivers side is bolted to a L bracket that is on the side of the intermidiate housing.

Scalliwag's replacements were like 60 bucks for the pair. and they are great quality. 6061 AL I will get the dimensions for you tomorrow and PM you them. You may try ebay for his mounts or just PM him. his forum name is " Scalliwag" Hope this helps you out a little man. Sounds like your getting closer to the end of the tunnel

Aloha Dave

The one FC engine mount I have laying around measures 1-3/4 on one side and 1-7/8 on the other. It's a used mount. That measurement does not include the cup that the mount sits in, but does include the cup and base that are moulded in.

Victoria British lists mounts as follows:

FC Left/left 44.95
FB Left 32.95
FB Right 19.95

Check thier online catalouge.

There are some solid aluminum floating around on the forums and eBay.

haha yeah im in the FC section for once.... its weird hehe . i may end up here more often because my sister is considering an FC vert. and im sure ill be her mechanic.

anyaway, thanks so much for the info. yeah im getting alot closer to getting it mounted in the car.... i have basicaly everything at this point besides the motor mounts so im getting real anxious. then the fun will be getting everything back in the car (interior etc), and wiring up the ECU as well as making some intake piping and other silly stuff.

im worried about solid mounts because of the vibration, so i think ill try and stay away from the Al mounts. id like to use some stiff mounts, along with a tranny brace and diff brace. that should tighten everything up pretty well. anyway, maybe ill be perusing the FC forum more often... to be honest im getting kind of tired of the same old banter in the FD section. anyway, thanks again for the info. later, heath

PS do you say aloha for goodbye as well? or is it just hello?

hey thanks! i was under the impression that the FB mounts were the same height as each other... that is interesting to know because that seems like quite a height difference.
