more questions about the $100 GXL with possibly broken water seal

Ok, so i have been doing some work with it.. someone told me on the board yesteday that if there is a broken water seal there should be bubbles running into the resevore... and there is not.. so i am alittle stumped..

aswell, I was running it without any water in it and the choke would not turn off.. we then added water and the choke shut down and it was running at a good idle... so the conclusion i have come to is that the choke sensor is somewhere in the cooling system and not in the block.. is this right?

ok.. one more question.. what are the symptons of a broken water seal... and what i figured would be poor idle, lots of smoke from exhost, no power.. and it has none of these..

I wouldnt think it would be a water seal if you dont have any of the symtoms you listed. What are the symtoms?

its overheating... we have taken the system apart and flushed it completly.... there was alot of junk in there.. which looked like gasket sealer that the guy i bought it off used.. so we flushed it out.. its running both ways clean.. but there is a vacume of some kinda.. the top water hose was pinching.. could that just be the water pump

one thing that was weird is that after it was warmed up and the choke didnt shut off.. this was with NO water in the system.. then we added some water and it shut off the choke and started idle properly.. I asked about where the sensor is for the choke and I guess its not in the in the water so i dont really understand why it did that..

Okay, the sensors for your "choke" are not in the TB exclusively (matter of fact, exactly WHAT sensor in the TB are you talking about?) , they are everywhere. Putting water in your system would have DEFINATELY caused your idle to act more normal.

And now here is the sure fire test for a blown water seal....

With the engine cold, fill your cooling system to the top. Leave the CAP off. Crank motor. Big geyeser in the engine bay during cranking? Thats a blown water seal.

You could:

1: Preasure test the cooling system: leaks down? where's it going?

2: Don't use the stock guage, get an aftermarket one so you actually know what temp you are running.

3: It won't always blow bubbles if a coolant seal is gone... thinkabout it.. seal blown on intake side..... rad hose pinched... coolant sucked out of system...makes sence right?

I don't think that the top rad hose would crush from the water pump. The top hose is the outlet.... Does the bottom hose crush too?

im not sure if the bottom one is pinching too.. I didnt get a chance to look... and i have been playing with it all day and i cannot make it happen again.. and i dont remember what i did to make it happen.

I have a feeling that there might be a slight blockage somewhere.. that is leting some fluid go through but not all..

one question... ok so lets say the water seal is broken so its burning water.. but, it shouldnt start overheating untill it burns enough water so then there isnt any left to cool the system right? I ask because it seems that the only water loss is the steam that ends up puking out or coming from the res once it starts boiling..

shitty thing is now i am having some trouble starting it.. once i get it going i can shut if off and fire it back up no problem.. but once it has sat for some time it becomes a bitch to get going...

PS.. I got to take it for my first real ride and ****, 7's F-in Rock.. I couldnt belive the power this thing had... i didnt expect that from this thing..
I got busted when i took it for the drive though.. I went like less than a block down the road and no ****, the first car i saw was a cop... I had no plates, no hood.. and was getting raw... no ticket though.. just a warning!
