Just from rumors. So basically, I am guessing based on some slim evidence. I really can't back that one up.

Aaron, I have the utmost respect for you, Chombatta.... But is this really any different than all the '7 owners who base their self worth and the value of their car on their 1/4-mile times, or on the approval of the RX-7 community by a sig-line list of mods on their cars?
I'm trying to figure out what you mean by this...are you for or against what I was saying? Again, if people base their self worth on their car and 1/4 mile times, they have serious issues a well. As far as the sig-line lists, it just makes it easier for people to see what is done with the car. Standard form in any automotive forum is to post details about your car in your sig...I am following the trend, but also my car is a rather unique configuration, so I figure it might be of interest to a few people. It is certainly not any kind of ego-stroking gesture. In fact, on the TeamFC3s forum, my sig just says "'86 Base: A few mods...". I let my car be an extension of myself, not the other way around. Not sure if you've read alot of my posts, but based on my combative style, I am certainly not looking for approval by the RX-7 community...

The truth is that very few in either group actually base their self worth on these things.... It's just what we do for fun.
I hope this is true. It is obvious the original poster of the first comment has some self-esteem issues, but really, from the evidence I see in this thread, it's hard to believe what you say is true.

P.S. - Who's the chick with the hair?
I assume you are referring to the girl in my avatar? That is Marla Singer.

P.P.S. - Do you think she'd want a ride in my 'vert?
LOL. If you know Marla, it's doubtful that she would be the least bit interested. She'd probably turn around and walk the other way. Marla is not interested in such things.

She is interested in getting it on with people with multiple personality disorders, and if you're diseased or about to die, I'm sure she'd come a runnin!

Um....what the hell are you talking about? Slowest compared to what, the third gens? All second gens, perhaps with the exception of the convertible, are faster than 12A-equipped first gens. There are a couple of models that are even faster than the GSL-SE (the Sport and '88 GTU).

That's cool man, I'll take your word for it. I have yet to drive a vert, but I wager that the added poundage and loss in rigidity would serve to alter the handling for the worse. The next time I see one for sale, I'll take it for a test drive and see for myself.

Happy rotoring,
Isaac

P.S. Do you have any modifications done to your Sport? I'd love to see picks of the car either way.

Like everyone said, the convertible is nothing to cry about. If it was a GTUs or a 10th AE THEN you could bitch and moan about a "perfectly good FC down the drain".

You're all a bunch of cry babies. You think the Mustang forums, Bus forums, Suburban forums or whatever forums start crying when ever Jesse "destroys/mutates" one of "their" cars? Probably not. IT'S PURE ENTERTAINMENT!!!

If I were looking for a car to modify for my T.V. show and I stumbled upon this thread, I would stay away from RX-7s because some one will cry and send me hate mail for something my show did to the car. According to this thread, RX-7 owners are crybabies and tend to insult other models/generations of RX-7s.

Wan, maybe on the big eared, big eyed, goat-tee havin' planet you come from verts suck, but remember that here, you are a member of a forum of RX-7 enthusiasts. Maybe you havn't checked under the hood of a vert lately or driven one. If this is the case let me asure you that it is every bit an RX-7. That being the case there are people here who enjoy them just as much as a GTU at a 10th AE. And therefore will have a comment or two regarding their destruction and or disassociation from the rest. The way you talk about verts leads me to believe that you feel anyone with a vert shouldn't even be a member here. This thread needs a fork sticking out of it.

Not from the #s i have seen or real life experiances where my 1st gens pulled on my 2nd gens. But note i said some of the slowest.. I am pretty sure the GTUs beats a few of the 12a 1st gens. And also probably the GTU.. but the rest i don't believe do.

And the GSL-SE was the fastest RX-7 until the TII.

You know they don't choose the cars right, the producers choose the car. Why would you be mad at the crew for choosing an RX-7 when they had no say in the matter.

I tend to trust Car and Driver and other well-established magazine comparison tests over that of the "real life experiences" of some enthusiast on the internet. No offense. Were both cars exactly stock? I doubt it. The Sport was faster and is faster stock than the GSL-SE and the 12A first gens. It came out before the Turbo II.

Isaac

P.S. I know that the drivers who work for magazines may not be the best of the best, but I consider their skill to be more credible than that of a faceless name on an RX-7 forum.

I managed to record the show and I watched it last night. I don't care what anybody says, that car was clean as a whistle and I felt sick as I watched the morons destroy it. I am a fan of the show, but I am not a fan of that episode. If you're going to make a sand rail, where the whole point is a good power to weight ratio, why not choose the lightest model you can find? It boggles my mind that they would choose THE HEAVIEST RX-7 ever made.

Here's the scoop.

Today I spoke on the phone with one of the team members of the rx7 sandrail episode. The conversation yielded a few intersting tidbits

The car was purchased for $5,000.
The car was in mint condition.
The car was predestined to fail.

There is more but the person I spoke to said he might come to this forum and discuss it and I would rather it come from his keyboard.

I never said that I didnt like verts. I would like to own one BUT everyone here is making it sound like the Vert is super rare and because that one was destroyed there is going to be a big shortage in parts. That show doesnt care if the car theyre "destroying" is better off in the hands of a caring owner or not. The show is about taking something and transforming it into something it wasnt meant to be just to see if it works. Thats what the show is about.

I always thought RX-7 owners were stronger than this but this show brought out all the cry babies. You guys think old american car owners start crying whenever big foot or grave digger smash the **** out of their loved cars?? I REALLY doubt it. Besides, it's not like Monster Garage went to your house and stole YOUR car. Get over it.
