Cool MBC Install?

I Need help on installing Hallmans manual boost controller on my 88 turbo? I put it on the line that goes to the wastegate as instructions say, but I'm not getting any changes in boost levels when I crank it up. Its a Ball & Spring type boost controller. Is there something else I need to do?
Prior to the MBC I was running :

9 psi max in 2nd,
12 psi max in 3rd,
14 psi max in 4th.

No change with MBC dialed up?

thanks.

Looks like the wastegate isn't opening at all. Do you have the MBC in backwards?

Stock turbo with Racing Beat Full Exhaust. Does the increasing boost pressure at the intake, open or close the wastegate?

MBC's will generally only flow in one direction. If it is installed backwards, the wastegate actuator never sees the turbo ouput. You will get runaway boost pressures. This sounds like what you have.

So what the hell do you need a boost controller for? Unless you already have more fuel and a bigger intercooler I would say your boost is already way too high.

I checked, and it is installed correctly. I'm not getting runaway boost pressure either. I've seen data in Racing Beat tech guide that shows a disconnected wastegate in 3rd gear "runaway" but mine is not doing that. So by design, as the boost goes up, the wastegate goes open and limits the boost level, and the manual boost controller will keep the signal to the wastegate down until the boost overcomes the setting on the MBC? If this is true, then I will try the heavier spring for the MBC and see what effect that has?

Does anyone know the boost limit on the turbocharger?

Also has anyone messed with the solenoid valve on the primary chamber of the stock turbo that is designed to try and get low end boost up, and switches over to the secondary chamber at 2500 RPM?

thanks.

Here is how I have my Ric Gills manual boost controller installed on my car. U run the vacume line from the wastegate to the bottom of the boost controller. Then run the line from the turbo to the side of the MBC. U will have to turn the dial counter clockwise to make less boost and clock wise to raise the boost.

Hope this helps.

Mike

The instructions I got were wrong......this way worked correctly.

Mine worked fine with my stock TID and cone filter. I have it set to 10 psi. When I did my custom 3" TID mod I saw 11 psi on the lowest setting. That means it's time to port my wastegate. Maybe it's time to port yours also.
