manually turning an engine

how much MMO should i pour into the spark plug holes when i turn this bitch manually tonight...

i heard that i can pour alot in there and it wont matter, but im trying to take REAL good care of this engine as i want it to last as long as possible....
so im just looking to find a good average amount to pour in.....also is MMO the best thing for that...
i assume it is, but your opinions will help me decide

thanks in advance

Well, you can pour a lot in as long as you don't have the spark plugs in because if they ARE in you can create hydrolock. Although by hand I doubt you could do that. I tell people a capfull per face for 3-4 rotations.

I would just use a high quality motor oil for long term storage or better yet: Fogging Spray : See your boat dealer

So did you figure it out?

1 cap per face per rotor. So 3 in the rear, 3 in the front. Use a 4mm vac hose and stuff it into the lower plug hole.

ok....
if i turn it, and it pops, that is one complete revoultion of the rotor, right?.....which means that all 3 sides have passed the hole for every pop.....the pop being the blast you hear for the exhaust part of the cycle...right....
or am i completely wrong here?
if im right, then i assume i turn it just a tad ....and pour some....turn it somemore....pour some....then turn it a little more, and pour some more, turn just a bit more, and i should hear the pop.....because if one rotation gets all three sides to the hole, then i need to pour 3 times for every pop that i hear right.....??

im still learning so bare with me.....

The eccentric shaft makes three revolutions
for every rotor revolution. This means the
eccentric shaft rotates three times faster
than the rotor.

I rebuilt a turboii engine that didn't get put in a car until over a year later. I just poured some regular motor oil down the inlet and turned the engine over by ratchet a few times. I had the intake off at the time. But consider where the oil went. Went into the turbo and exaust. Took a little time to burn it off a year later. I'd go out and do this every couple of months when and if I thought about it. I don't worry a bunch. Oh,engine runs plenty good fine today, in the car.

I'd say a new engine sitting for a year is alot different then an old one though as it should be covered with build lube inside that probably wouldn't go anywhere.
