Converted Power rack and a manual rack will work and feel exactly the smae, except that the manual rack will have an extra turn of the steering wheel from lock to lock (all the way from one side to all the way to the other). B/c of this, the Manual rack will be easier to turn, but neither are by any means hard.

I prefer a converted P/S, having owned and driven several different cars with each.

Rack change is easy. Can be done in a weekend, no probs.

Try a junkyard for the manual rack if you decide to go this route.

You can just remove the pump and block off all the ps lines. It might be a little harder to turn than a manual rack, but still not that hard imo. Some say this will ruin the rack, but anyone who has this setup that I know hasnt had any problems.

I had a manual rack in my '87 TII and removed it in favor of a converted power rack. The steering was too slow for my tast with the manual rack. There is not much difference in effort, but the converted power rack made the steering a little quicker and it seems to provide MORE feedback (the opposite of what you might expect. When I converted the power rack, I "looped" the lines so that fluid could still be pumped throught the rack when the wheels are turned. If you don't do that, you need to drain the rack or else it will be very difficult to turn the wheels.

I got a rebuilt power steering rack with new tierods, boots, etc. at mazdasurplus.com.

Paid $75.00 including the "processing fee".
