can i beat a stock '90 5L. Mustang with my '88 gxl
I just bought an '88 gxl and I'm geting the engine rebuilt. Its gonna be havily street ported with light mods such as Apex'1 exhaust, K&N, cone filter..i have little knowledge about rx7's as u can obvisly tell..i was just wondering if this is good enough to givemy buddies '90 5L. a run for his money...and if not....then what can u suggest...a street ported turbo? thanks....
if your talking qtr mile or street race the mustang will still have about 3 or 4 car lengths on you. the gxl is the second heaviest in the 2nd gen class. I had a 86 gxl i gave up on it. I got a t2. streetport does no make that big of a difference.

I've never seen anyone get a 45% increase any 6 port engine with just a street port.
But anyways, yes, with a street port, full exhaust and intake, and just about every other mod (intake porting, no emmisions, etc) an average driver can run a 15 sec no sweat.
No reason why you can't beat a 90 5.0L..... I've done it lots (everyone in my damn city has a Mustang!)
They really aren't that fast stock.... untill you start modding them.
Make sure that when you run that rustang that you get deep into at least 3rd gear... they really start to die once up to highway speeds.. where the 7 shines (3rd at least!)
Shouldn't be a problem though. I could beat new ones (close though) winding out my car when it was N/A... a 90 should be done. like dinner!

my friend had a 94 gt, my 90gtu with a racing beat header, and intake could keep up with him really well. we never lined up for a formal drag, but would chase each other all the time. BamBam, I found that I would keep right with him through 1st, and 2nd, but in 3rd and 4th the 'stang would start pulling away.
Hmm, I found the opposite. I always barely pull ahead, or even trail most cars through 1st gear, untill the top of second. Then through third I'm always pullling away.
