My guess would be clutch type. But then again i have NO REAL drift experience.. best to ask J-rat, hes "da man" as some would say.
*edit* no, the stock T2 lsd (viscious coupling) is not prone to failure. (so ive heard)

S5 TIIs have the viscous coupling, S4s have clutch type. I don't know which would be better for drifting, but I just wanted to clear that up.

I believe that the clutch type would be alittle more predictable, thus better for drifting.

as far as ive read the clutch type is better because with the other, if the wheel comes off the ground the lsd effect stops.

The S4 clutch-type differential, with the friction modifier left out of the differential (just normal GL-4 gear oil, no LSD additive) will be the most effective. Noisy and rough for street use, but great for drifting.

Stock clutch-type LSD die early.
Aftermarket?
It's between Cusco and OS Giken...

heh torsen is great.

But for drift, I think the added flexibility of using a clutch type will come in handy so you can setup rates under accel/decel etc.

LOL!! Thanks!

Honestly, I just drift on the stock S4 LSD. Maybe I am not the man after all?

I would either replace it with an aftermarket unit (best) or rebuild it.
I highly doubt your LSD is still functioning within spec by now.

Aftermarket LSD would be the best but it costs $$$$.

S4 clutch type LSD works fine. torsen LSD won't last long for hard drifting.

mazda sells the parts, then use some shim stock and shim it up tighter. its pretty much the same for all cars with clutch type lsd's so do a web search on lsd rebuilds and it will show you how to do it.
