lower end torque

How exactly can I go about getting lower end torque. I had to wire open my ports and It really helped the uppper range but I have no lower end torque at all. I am working on opening my ports like they are supposed to open. What performance mods help you in this area. I was going to get nitrous soon but I do not see the point because I am not going to squeeze before 4k and I have lots of power then anyways (not to say nitrous would not be nice). I think I am going to port my manifold and get a header but the probelm is I see this hurting my lower end torque because of lack of back pressure and port velocity. Well let me know what you think.

Welcome to the world of rotary ownership

In short, getting your 6PI working correctly is about the only thing that you can do. Rotaries simply don't make much torque until you start porting them...

I had a race pipe put in yesterday.
2.5 inch into a resonator.

Torque increase in low range and midrange.

You might want to try that.

Maybe try a lightened flywheel. It would not help out in torque, but it would let you build revs faster to get you in the power band.

Your on the right track by fixing the 6-ports. To see the performance difference, I connected a “mity-vac” hand pump to the actuators, then did some LOW END 3rd gear pulls from 1500 to 3500 rpm. The time was more than 1 second faster with the ports closed. Of course they still need to open at 3500..

How much would it cost to put this on one of those banners that hang behind those lil prop planes; and fly it around the country for a year.
