loud injectors?

Are the injectors on our cars known to be loud? Ive always had a ticking noise that i just thought was a small exhaust leak in my s5 t2.... but now that my exhaust has no leaks i still have the ticking. Im pretty sure its the injectors?

If you know what you are listening for, you can hear the injectors in the engine bay. But there is so much noise that it takes a trained ear to hear them.

If you suspect loud injectors, grab a long screwdriver and place the tip against an injector. Now put the handle in your ear. You should then be able to hear the injector cleanly and compare it to the noise. Or, a mechanics stethoscope if you have one.

The pulsation dampener is supposed to reduce the sound of the injectors.

If you do not smell gas then I wouldn't worry about it. I think all injectors start making some noise when they get older. Listen for them in any car with over 75k on it and see if you can hear them.

If you are really concerned then get them serviced (I've heard good things about www.witchhunter.com).

The PD doesn't have a vacuum line.

I'd give the screwdriver trick a shot to narrow it down a bit.

This reminds me of when I first installed my RB header. I heard a ticking noise and I am so sensitive to little changes in the "normal" engine noise. Turned out the header has a thinner wall than the stock bath tub which made the small popping noise (very hard to hear). Later it just went away, probably due to me getting used to the new noises : )

But as far as injector noise. Very easy to hear injectors if you know what to listen for. They can also fool you a lot of times thinking you have a exhaust leak or so.

If the screwdriver doesn't work, take a rubber hose and cut long enough so it reaches the injectors and your ear. Probe around and since it's flexible you can stuff it anywhere.

There is also the Bypass Air Control Valve that likes to make noises sometimes....
