BC loud bang

so something odd happened yesterday..

accelerating to merge onto a road, probably about 1/2 or 3/4 throttle... around 4k rpm, and BANG. fairly loud metallic bang or crunch sound...
first reaction was to put the clutch in. engine died straight off. didn't putter out. just full stop.

gear selector goes into every gear smoothly so i've ruled out trans. car rolls fine in neutral so i've ruled out dif (aside from the fact that i coasted to the side of the road with no issues) when i try to move it in gear it feels like its jammed... it just rocks back and forth.

when i try the starter all i get is a mettalic clang. i also cannot turn the engine by hand...

so right now i'm thinking something to do with flywheel/clutch/pressure plate...or engine... but i don't want it to be engine... thats a lot of money i don't have.

if you've got any ideas/insights lets hear it. brainstorming time...

I'm not super familiar with FCs, but on many cars there is usually a hole or even a removable plate around the bellhousing that would allow you to see the flywheel. You can also remove the starter to take a look. If you can put the car into gear and N without much hassle, you can probably rule out clutch issues. I'd start but just trying to take a look at it. Drain the oil and look for metal. Good luck.

Sorry, but, other than a blown and locked up clutch,(explodes and wedges itself together and jams the pressure plate Sounds like a locked apex seal thats jammed against the rotor housing,or,you dropped your front main bearing,or you rolled a rotor bearing and it spun on the e shaft but first how was your oil supply and what kind of oil pressure did you have before it went bang, also does the engine turn if you depress the clutch,if not, its.. its... its..... the ....................Engine,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, aaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh

oil supply should have been adequate. recently topped up, but i will drain to check for debris.

i don't recall what the oil pres. was before it happened... i was merging, i was more concerned about traffic and not running down pedestrians...

well.... good so far (no blown bearings), most times when a rotary blows there are no telltale signs of metal in the oil.If you get under the car remove the starter, and try to turn the motor backwards,if you can't she locked up and,its time to remove and tear apart, and rebuild or replace.....................................
