Lost for an answer
Resently I purchased a 1988 RX7 from my next store neighbor. I drove it into my driveway, and it sounded like a sewing machine, the temperature gauge went up to about halfway, and it just didnt sound right. After it warmed up it would not start again for a while. Tis is my first experience to rotary engines, but i know quite a bit about standardd piston run engines. Any ideas?

It shouldn't sound like a piston engine, but I wouldn;t describe it like a sewing machine....
Temp is normal. In the future, let it completely warm up before shutting it off.

I checked the oil and it was clean. Also checked anti freeze, and it was clean. I also put fresh gas in. THe car sat for no longer than 2 years, the previous owner took it to a mechanic and they mentioned something about a gasket or a seal.

IBskeegin,
The quick/easy way is to have your local "rotary experienced" mechanic to perform the full 60K mile service. That includes tuneup, wires, plugs, flushing of fluids, fuel filter, injector cleaning, TPS adjustment, etc..
Note keep this car OUT of the dealership. They'll try to sell you $5000 of work that is unecessary.
If your doing this yourself, get the repair manual or download it from www.teamfc3s.org and follow the procedures for a tuneup.

The information you've supplied about your problems is not sufficient enough to validate any of these answers. Does the car rev to redline? smoothly? sounds like a sewing machine when? and how so? Do you have power? Is it a turbo, If so are you showing boost? How long is "a little while before it would start"? Give us more info before you start anything. The mention from the guy about a seal may be an apex seal you should let us know more.

alright, i felt as if i was being a little bit vague so i will answer all of those questions. The car does rev to redline smoothly. The sewing machine sound appears when the engine is warmed up, and it sounds to me like it is spinning too freely. When I moved it today, i put it into drive(its an automatic) the engine stalled, I started it again and it moved. To start it i needed to pump the gas and turn the key for about 20 seconds. After it was moved, it idled on its own but it did not hum, it sounded uneven. THe guy that I bought it from was very sketchy on the details about the cars trip to the mechanic, he really didnt know much about it because he has no clue about rotary engines and when they quoted him $1500 he lost interest. All that he told me is that there was a gasket or seal was bad. ----- I hoped this helps in diagnosing my problem, Thanks for all the help, and if you need any more info, please ask
