Losing Weight

Is there anything that I can remove from my 86 n/a GXL to lose weight and/or gain horsepower. I was gonna start off with the a/c and the air pump....and other suggestions??

A/C and air pump is a start. The stock exhaust weighs a LOT, replace it with a nice aftermarket one. Pull the carpet and dashboard out, remove the A/C unit from behind the dash. Get some dry ice and start breaking off the sound deadening material (about 50lbs there). Replace the rear hatch glass with Lexan (about 40lbs gone right there). Remove any extra wires from the wiring harnesses, thats a good 15lbs (I know, I just weighed all the wires I removed from our car).

I want to do that bad. Not really for the weight just more for a clean car. It was amazed by how many extra wires and harnesses are on these cars we dont use..Also is there a link to removing the ac unit from inside the car behind the dash???

Link? No, I've just done it a few times. Remove dashboard, remove A/C....I'm too lazy to write up the whole procedure. To do it properly, though, it will take a few days. You also have to make a duct to link the fan to the vent switch box (whatever you call it)

I dunno if i'd remove the air pump..... you might need that to operate your 5/6 ports if you free up your exhaust system.....

Please tell me you're joking...

Have you actually done this and weighed it or are you just guessing based on what it felt like? It's not 50 lbs.

It's about 20 lbs. You can pick up another 10 lbs or so by also removing the firewall insulation. Good for a full time track car but probably not worth it for a street car. The AL hood would help a lot. Dumping the PS and going to a manual rack could also save you some weight.

Yah I removed ~2/3 of my tar and it weighed in at 13.2 lbs. From what I've heard full tar removal hits around 20 lbs, but definitely not 50.
