Looking for more power

Electricity. My amp draws alot of juice from my battery, which gives me a low fluctuating idle and dim lights, at idle my amps look like about 9, and around 3k they're less than 12.5, what options would I have as far as getting a bigger battery, alternator with bigger output, ideas?

If you have a s4 the s5 alt will drop right in and offer more amps. What is causing such a high draw anyway? If you have a s5 alt there's always the FD alts but they require a vbelt pulley and they don't match the S4 harness connector.

this is common problem with amps. one solution is to install a power cap.(1F i think) install it befor the amp that way the cap. can help with the amp draw. Bounes; some have a voltage output lcd screen

The S4 70A alternator is very weak. The FAQ has a diagram for conversions to S5 and S6+ alternators. There's also a thread somewhere about using a Taurus 140A alt.

Not completely true. While an S5 alternator will bolt on perfectly, the connector is the oval type found on an FD alternator. The S5 also requires a constant 12V source for the regulator, unlike the S4's switched 12V. The warning light wire remains the same, but a new, fused wire will have to be run to the L terminal.

Too add $.02 of help, the s5/FD alternator plug can be found on most all 90's mazdas in the junk yard. So if you go that route and need that plug, thats where.

i can post a pic of how the cap. is installed. am running 2 amps in my fc w/ 11 speakers. the sound is sweet!!!!.. my lights do not dim out at all. i think i paid out a little over a bill for the cap. install is easy. just trying to weigh out whats more cost effective a new /used alternator and the mod. you have to do to make it work or a power capacitor made for this problem

I thought that this was the primary reason the Taurus SHO had issues; the Ford acc couldn't handle 7000 Yamaha-made RPM. If they can't take 7K, how would they like 8K? Or are the Taurus pieces so inexpensive that one can justify replacing them every 25,000 miles?

Ask Jackhild59. Whichever Taurus alternator he's using seems to work just fine: https://www.rx7club.com/showthread.p...ghlight=taurus

The s5 alt is a little stronger or a lot of people upgrade to FD too. Search the forums for a guide. The s5 isn't quite a direct drop in though; you need to swap a couple wires.
