Is it leaking from the oil filter itself or the oil filter MOUNT?

A leaky oil filter would just require a new oil filter - just replace your original one with a new one.&nbsp A leaking oil filter mount requires two o-rings, half a day, and a 10mm wrench.

Hey dude. this happened to me once. You're all going to laugh at me, since i wasted my money on three different oil filters. The rubber gasket from the old oil filter got stuck onto the oil filter receptacle. When i tried to put the new ones on, sure they fit, except since there were two gaskets, one stuck on top of the other, all the oil leaked out of the "filtered" side. stupidity at it's best.

I ordered the o-rings for tomorrow, don't need a blow out. But why would the leak come and go?

It's not *THAT* hard, as long as you don't have large hands...

I have you beat.. When I bolted the pedestal back on, i completely missed the hole on the block side, and bolted it off the edge.. I thought it looked a little funny, but oh well.. I start it, and WHOA! Boatloads of oil squirting everywhere! whoops!

Also... Someone said that the torque on the nuts is 6-8 lb*ft... That seems really small, but I put it on the site anyway.. Can someone confirm these numbers? I didn't actually use a torque wrench, but just tightened it "till it felt good"..

I cleaned all the oil from around the filter area then started the car. You were right it was the o-rings. Mazda ordered them for tomorrow morning so i wanted to take it apart tonight. It took ten minutes to get it out with a 10mm stubie wrench. You know the wrenches that you buy but never use...... Thanks alot for your help I start mods in june and I was trying to fix every little thing before june and that was the last thing..
