Kick *** 90 Vert
hey guys, I recently bought this vert from a rich guy who drove it on non rainy sundays (38k miles). anyways i am new to the rx-7 world and was hoping you gurus could give your best opinion on a complete setup that would kick the asses off the cars on my streets and possibly an occasional drag strip race. consider this car is going to be my sunday ride as well.
I want to be complete, soo body kits/widebody kits, exhausts, springs etc...what is the best complete setup you can list? money is no object in this case
please provide your own list rather than add on to anyone elses list, and justify your selections. if you have pictures thats great too. looks and speed to back it up!!
hope you guys can help me...

Okay Fred, it basically boils down to two options. You can do extensive customization to the n/a engine, add a shot, and the car might see 14's. The car would be loud as Hell, and probably wouldn't idle too well. I would reserve this option for the hard core n/a coupe guys.
Since you have a convertible, and you need to keep the car somewhat *pimp* I would go with option number two...
Pick up a Jap-spec 13BT and the appropriate drivetrain to suit it. Pick up a few of the odds and ends to install it, and drop it in. It'll fit like it was meant to be in it. Run a few searches and I'm sure you'll pick up some good info on this. The n/a to Turbo II think is talked about a lot.
Don't be afraid to do it either. If you're comfortable with pulling an engine the swap is as straight forward as it gets.

i am on a territory of the U.S. hehe the car is a non turbo convertible. i havent seen any turbo convertibles out here but i have seen a few in the mainland U.S. i know they were stock turboII convertible in japan, but i must have a U.S. version.
i was just wondering if anyone setup their verts and what was the best options based on what is out now. mostly everyone here has a turboII or some sort of turbo...but i know my car is heavier than the coupe. thats why i posted.
the car is my sunday driver so i cant have it too loud either or ill prolly get my car bashed up late at night hehe. im looking for some sort of wishlist for a convertible...hey suggest a nice color as well...i have blue interior and its practically new looking. thanks for the replies.

I just recently repainted my vert, and I would suggest to go back to stock...or close to it. Mine was red, and I kept it red...just a little different shade, and it was really awesome. I went with the SAAB Imola Red, and I asked them to add a light pearl mixture to it. It's got a good bit of depth to the color, and it looks great. Good luck!

BadBoy/Fred,
Hey welcome to the forum.
Also recently picked up a 89 convertible as my second second generation rx-7.
Good news you've got a HUGE amount of upgrades, bodykits, accessories, and information to choose from. So take your time, look around at all the rx7 websites, ask questions here, and check out the second generation knowledgebases/archives in this site and other sites.
For my convertible I'm not interested in massive HP upgrades rite now, but I'm working on stage I upgrades including:
- HKS exhaust
- Performance catalytic converter
- convertible specific downpipe
- K&N intake
- cold airbox from www.mariahmotorsports.com
- stamped headligh airscoop from mariahmotorsports.com
For stages II-IV (2-4) I haven't decided what I want to do as I already have a Turbo II to satisfy the boosted car itch I'm thiking of:
- performe the COMPLETE TII conversion
or
- port the non turbo engine and add a chip to take advantage of the increased airflow
The TII conversion includes the turbo, ECU (computer), 13B-turbo engine, flywheel, transmission, driveaxel, rear differential, motor mounts, COMPLETE suspension, 17" TII wheel, etc..
Another option is to go supercharged. Several GTU-S owners have added a supercharger which gives your the "large engine" feel with boosted low end torque.
Other options include going carborated or stepping up to the 20B-turbo engine (3 rotor engine).
LOTS of bodykits to choose from. In the US www.mariamotorsports.com makes the widebody CONVERSION that pulls 1G in the corners. They offer 3 rotor and 2 rotor turbo versions. It is a COMPLETE conversion and not a bolt on.
Japan and Australia have a wide selection of kits as well. Check out my picture archive of ~200 pictures here:

We're working on getting a carbon fiber or fiberglass hood for these as well.
