Thumbs down Just my luck... bad gas

Ok, I filled up the other day
My tank held about 25 bucks at 1.99 a gallon
so it was pretty much full of that certain gas

Well the day before yesterday,
i went to crank it and it would never fire up

Like it wasn't getting gas or something
So i just got pissed and went back inside
Because it's seemed like nothing wants to work lately with that thing

Well on the news the next day (yesterday)
Racetrac- tha gas place- was being sued by a bunch of people
because

Their gas contained HUGE amounts of water

So yeah- i've got a tank full of their gas
And so thats the rex is being like it is

So we've called them and they say they'll fix it

But I was wondering what exactly has to be done
I know drain the gas out of the lines and tank, but what else?
Plugs? Fuel Filter?

Thanks Guys
I'm never going to racetrac again

To avoid cheap gas: www.toptiergas.com. List of good brands. Endorsed by BMW, Honda, others. The major brands listed are 76, Chevron, Shell, Texaco. Plus they have additives to burn clean, reduce/remove engine & fuel system deposits, remove water, prevent rust, lower emissions, etc., etc. More info is on the web site.

Best of luck... I wouldn't do anything yourself until Racetrac tows it and fixes it, or they might worm their way out of it. Hopefully you just have to replace the gas, but I dunno. In the mean time some fuel stabilizer will prevent rust.

drain the fuel tank and get some good gas. put some premix oil in the tank to help keep it from rusting the inside.

Oil will not prevent rust. Even though the oil won't rust the tank, any remaining water still will.

did you actually find water in the tank???

Otherwise it's just BS.

And a rotary will not be damaged by water anyway.

ooo that sucks. Well thats good that you found out something was going on with that company the following night. What made you get gas there? Is it convient, or local to your home? Otherwise... i cant imagine why else you would get gas there. I mean 1.99?? what is this... wouldnt you think it'd be some trouble??

I heard ARCO has water in their gasoline aswell. Most people that fill up there are having issues. That sucks... I mean you get what you pay for ya?

Anyways, LA hasnt really gone below 2.50 /pgallon there are some good and bad days but never below 2.40 for sure. Oil barrels went down a couple bucks the other weak which means gas prices are gonna get low ... ofcourse.. ."termporarily" lol... Like eric mentioned... get good quality gas. OR atleast try to. Anyways, good luck with your problem. See ya!

mmm. They should pay you for the time the car is gone, too. Sue the **** out of them.

The local airBP distributed some aviation fuel with 1% kerosene content a couple of years ago. In order to avoid a legal battle, everybody who had bought that gas got a new engine and was compensated for the entire time the plane was down.

One of my ground school instructors had filled up his old, crappy, high hours cessna 152 up with that gas. He got the brand new engine....and since lycoming was backordered...he got payed close to the value of the plane for the downtime.

yeah they're deff. paying for the new gas and a filter at least

I dont mind draining it and changing the filter though,
cuz a previous owner did something stupid but then innovative.

He drilled a hole in the bottom of the gas tank
somehow got a fine fine grooved nut in there
put black tar around the outside
and put a screw through the nut with a rubber washer in between.

It sounds redneck,
but it doesn't leak and is an easy way to drain the gas.

she keeps telling me how sorry she is... no biggie

anyways, i dont wanna go ahead and fix it myself
because you know they'd start some sh*t

Gas down here has been in the Two Dollar range for a while, now...

Why did he drill a second drain? The FC's is on the passenger side, on the bottom. I KNOW you've got a Haynes manual, B..

The last owner was your damn uncle, so shush. Haha

the tow truck just pulled off and I have no clue when I'll get my rex back.
It might be a few days, maybe over a week. So yea I'm just moping around.

She got a compliment though!
The dude was like "thats a pretty sharp lookin' little car!"
lol- that made my day!

anyways, the mechanic has to :
drain the gas,
change the plugs,
put in a new fuel filter,
and fill it up with new gas.

And the good thing is...
I DONT HAVE TO PAY FOR IT! YAY!

thats what?
$35 for new gas
$40 for the plugs
$5 for the filter
$55 for the tow truck
and labor

So RaceTrac has to pay over $200 prolle

Stupid retards
They should pay ME for pain and suffering!

haha just kidding
but yea thats just an update

I'll post back when I get some news of anything...

Thanks Guys!!!!!!

Thumbs down Ughh $#^@$*

Well... heres my update...

The gas im my car was *perfect*
not a drop of water

and the auto-place tested the fuel pump
and it wasn't working

so I had to have it towed back home.
I put on a new fuel pump, $130

and then I drug the car up the driveway
then rolled it down and roll started it!

And it kicked right off!

So, $55 to tow it to the auto place
$85 for then to check it out
$55 to have it towed home
and $130 for the fuel pump

so about $325 for this fix.

Thats similar to tha last job...
Stupid car! Maybe one day things will stop messing up!

I guess that is why when everyone was saying bummer, I said:

Maybe next time you'll listen to someone that knows something... but I doubt it.

Dude, you wasted how many days dealing with this because you wouldn't listen to the most basic information???

You could run the engine with water hooked up from the hose that you water your backyard with. It's a rotary. Water means nothing.

But instead you want to bitch about someone doing you wrong. First the gas station, then eventually me because I said," I told you so".

Talk about needing to grow up.:shakesheadindisgust:

Whoa..Brett needs to chill.

According to the place that looked at his car, the fuel pump was bad when they did a pressure test. He bought a new fuel pump and replaced it (On his cell with me at the time) and it still didn't crank. My original thought was that it was hardcore flooded...and that's what it turned out to be. Maybe the fuel pump went bad, but after replacing it, that didn't help whatsoever. A seriously hard roll start finally made it fire.

By the way, Icemark, he might want you to rebuild his wiper switch at some point.
