My Turbo II and the 3,111 mile trip!

After 45 hours of driving I have reached my destination. Going from Port Orchard, Washington to Wilmington, North Carolina...........long trip...very tiring. But the FC held up and had no problems, I was really proud of it! I saw at least 20 cars on the side of the road broken down....and all I could think was stupid pistons.....I hope I don't break down.

but anyways like I said no problems!

Well after driving for 4 days I am gonna take about a 3 day break from driving the FC to give it a break, and because I am just damn tired of sitting in it

If anyone else has traveled that far let me know how yours went, hopefully it went like mine

Thanks
Marty

+1 for the above questions about the mpg's. i made a 1200 mile round trip in my 84 GSL-SE with no problems. i went from vermilion ohio to myrtle beach SC and i averaged about 18mpg.

You know you're an FC owner when... you're happy/surprised after making a long trip without breaking.

My grand total for gas was around 500 I think, and I had to fill up about 6 times a day for the first 3 days and 2 the last day since I was only on the road for about 4 hours (had to fill up every 2 hours), and i never let it get below 1/4 tank.

and what was that about needing to start it? or is there something I should look for?

thanks

also I was getting about 21 mpg but keep in mind my motor was factory replaced about 11,000 miles ago.

wtf? things break i know, but if you perform preventative maintenence, then you shouldnt ever had a problem. rotary engines themselves are reliable. everything else is subject to question. lol.

Longest trip in one shot was about 800 miles from Rochester to Asheville NC. My TII ran like a champ and got an amazing 20 mpg. Over a 10 day span I put about 2600 miles on the car going from Rochester to Asheville, back home to central PA, back to Rochester, back to PA, and to the beach and back. Good times.

Other than the noise my 7 is a roadtrip champ, she'll cruise at 80 all day long. I absolutely love taking trips in my 7.

i made a similar trip...about 3100 miles. From Poulsbo, Washington--->Watertown, New york. Mine preformed flawlessly as well. i most i was getting 225 miles per tank. That would put me right above empty.

I can't drive more than 2 hours in my FC without killing my right knee (guess I need cruise control)... everything else works fine (except the squeaky, rattling hatch, the squeaky spoiler, and a few other random noises).

I made a trip from Memphis , TN - Chicago , IL.
Nothing broke on the way, got around 20-22 mpg. great!
But stuff started falling apart a month after the trip....

mostly leaky coolant hoses

You can always expect an FC in good condition to get decent highway mileage (22-24) but SUV-like city mileage (15 or worse depending on your right foot)... at least that's the way mine is...

After a trip like that I would reward the girl with a fresh oil change, filter and set of plugs. Glad you had a safe trip. Bet it was fun.

For solid highway, I got 28 or so mpg in my car, and about 18ish mostly city. This was on a fresh rebuild, though.

yea long trips in my 88 n/a are fun, its got a relatively new engine in it and some decent power and gets about 24-25mpg on the highway, 17mpg-ish in the city. would love to take a cross-country trip...one is definitely coming soon but ill have to choose between the s5 t2 or the s4 n/a....prolly go with the t2 since its been garaged for 2 years as i finish building it so it needs some fresh views lol.

kevin.

I did a 2,500 km trip in my fc, so around 1,500 miles.

Only issue i had was fuel usage (was badly tuned at the time) and my brake master cylinder started leaking while i was in canberra, got it fixed up the next day, and she was fine.

SufferRotary- What area of wilmington are you in? I live down towards the southern end, carolina beach area. Always nice to meet another FC owner in wilmington since there are very few.
