To my understanding there is no beneficial gain from a Jspec motor unless you are putting it in an NA car. I believe you have to use the stock ecu, injectors, and a few other components to make the engine run corectly, plus in japan the gas is like 110 octane so their HP/TQ ratings are high, but when you convert it, its only as goos as the US equipment (183hp, or 200hp depending on car).
Also, 30-60k miles in Japan is like 100k miles in the US, mostly city miles. I would not depend on one of those engines as a daily driver unlessyou rebuild which I hear is a good idea for a jspec motor.
The good side is you can most likely get a complete engine most likely in good condition, some of which may have added goodies like upgraded turbos, ported, clutches, bolt-ons, and I guess they are all available in long block form at a low cost of about 1 grand, its like a lotery.
its a good thing, jspec motors that is, since many turbo guys blow an apex seal and damage housings, rotors, and turbos.
As you can tell I know a thing or two about these motors cause sooner or later my rx7 is gonna pop cause its original.

Did you call SOKO? I called them when I was looking for my first j-spec, and they told me the no longer carried them. I still see them advertising them in magazines though. I tried them first because they were prettly close. I ended up getting mine from nippon motors. It was a good deal, but I blew the engine before I even got the car liscensed. Im getting my next one from FC3S.org, because I know they are the only engines he deals. This time im going for a series 5, better turbo and more HP. BTW what is your warranty Dave?

There is no big difference between the Japanese market engines and the American market engines. This is cool because that means it's one of the few times the American market wasn't screwed by getting a crappy engine in a car that has a better engine overseas. JSpec engines are used engines. If you get an engine from the states used that seems good, it's should be as good as anything from Japan. Bear in mind, suckers ride their cars harder over there. Racing and drifting most nights without much fear of being stopped by cops allows that.
