Question Jspec or NA rebuild???

OK, I am getting ready to pull the engine out of the 88 GXL and I can't decide on either to rebuild it or get a Jspec?
I know the rebuild would be about $1000 and I can get a Jspec with about 40,000 miles for $400.00. would this be better or would I have considerable more in it than $1000 after all the conversions for the Jspec and turbo?
Thanks!

Hey Node, glad to hear from you. If it's only a few hundred difference then the jspec is the ticket, otherwise it's going to be a rebuild for the stock NA. I know that I will have to get a TII trans and other stuff like an ECU and wiring harness, etc. As long as I can keep it under $1500 I would like to give it a shot.

For about 900-1000 bucks you can get a J-spec long block, meaning all manifolds, fuel injectors, wiring harness, turbo, intercooler. Assuming you were going to keep the NA driveline and tranny, all you would need is a T2 ECU.

The engine that I am looking at right now has at least part of the wiring harness on it. It also has all the other accessories including the turbo except the alternator, power steering pump and intercooler. Is there anything else major that I would need?
Thanks!

TII ECU, wiring harness, and I think the AFM. Put your NA flywheel and clutch on it and drop it in. Just don't drive hard all the time. Then you need to get a downpipe. It'd be a good idea to upgrade the fuel pump too.

I'm forgetting a lot of ****, but my memory sucks. So don't blame me.

Go for that 400$ engine! I'm sure you can have it running for well under 1500$.. Besides all the basic engine things, you'll need the ECU, wiring harness, and a turbo hood.... unless you rig up something front mounted..
