Jerky, Rich, unhealthy....HELP

87 TII - MODS in sig...

ok well my idle is rough, the car jerks a lot when just trying to cruise at a constant speed, and it smells like its running VERY rich.

I expected it to be richer since i installed 720s and rtek 1.7, but i didnt think it would be THIS bad...

the car wont cruise at a constant speed smoothly...it jerks...almost like the injectors are stuck at full bore. on the back of the UIM, there are 4 vac lines...the top 2 are primary, and secondary injector bleeder valves. Does it matter if those are switched?

idle is crappy...replaced UIM to LIM gasket, checked vac lines, and cant find anywhere unmetered air would be getting in...

running rich...the muffler tip is black...coated...and it smells like its running rich...

idle was decent before i did rtek and injectors...what could i have done wrong to mess it up?

should i pull ECU codes? should i remove the rats nest?
...i need help...sometimes itll idle at 700, sometimes 1100, sometimes 400....and its lopes a lot...not a smooth idle except when it is first started, after i rev it at all it isnt smooth anymore.

any help is appreciated...

-Matt

You installed the 720s in the secondaries, which don't open until about 4000 RPM. Do you cruise at 4000 RPM? Also, were they brand new when installed, or used? If they were used, you may want to have then sonically cleaned.

injectors are secondaries, and with rtek are engaged at 3600 rpm. i cruise around 3500 on the highway so they shouldnt be used while cruising...they are brand new Denso injectors...

EDIT - remanufactured....

the problem is not at the top end either...so i dont think there is any problem with the secondaries. it pulls HARD, and is fine up there...just seems like when cruising it jerks around a lot, and isnt smooth...not sure what would be the cause of this, but im hoping you guys can help...

What about Fuel Pressure Regulator? I have rtek 1.5 and Walbro, and it smells like fuel, and black mark on my bumper, but no problems running... The walbro is overrunning the FPR on my car causing a rich mixture... I have no Emissions crap on there... Could be a vacuum line prob...

Did you put the injector plugs back on the correct injectors? just wondering.... I'm thinking bad tps provided you reassembled the engine manifolds correctly. ~rich

yes, they are on the right injectors...but how would i go about checking to make sure...i was very careful to make sure they were marked...but its worth the check...

AND...my TPS was adjusted just a few days ago...but i think im gonna put a new connector on it becuase the old one looks ratty...maybe its not adjusting right because of a bad connection...or i could adjust it at the ECU.
