You do realize that a v8 swap is more expensive right?

Also, if your goal is auto x, good luck being class competitive w/ a v8 swap....

This guy's obviously not a quitter, he posted this THREE TIMES!

You should look into the duramax 6.2 liter swap. Do some searching, it's awesome.

It's not a RX-7 without the rotary engine, so I would put a 13BT back in.

As far as vendors for a JDM, contact JAPAN2LA on this board. He's a straight up guy, his parts are LEGIT and pricing is fair.

One other option, that is potentially cheaper and the route I took: Have it rebuilt by Kevin Landers AKA Rotary Resurrection. Very awesome guy, took the time to tear the engine down while I was there and dropped it off so we could see what happened in there! Would be a great time to do a street port at the same time.

Just my .02

rebuild your engine
you don't really need a port to have fun/be reliable
just invest a little in suspension
it'll be roughly as much to get a JDM engine to your door.
and you'll know the exact condition of your engine

Really....

I've heard that so many times. The fact is, an engine is an engine. Once you get past that, you'll be able to work on it. Think about it, it's got an intake manifold, exhaust manifold, spark plugs, etc. Just like any other engine. Imagine the base engine is a piston engine and you'll be fine. And for the love of all that is good in this world, check the service manual first.

There are a few things different here and there, but the basic idea is the same. Air goes in, fuel is injected, engine squishes the air, spark plugs fire it off, it goes out the exhaust. Done. Now swap in another TII engine and be done with the 4,536,348th "should I put xxxx engine in my car" thread.

Keep the rotary.

How would a jdm engine be any more reliable than a non-jdm engine? Think about what you just said. Rotaries require tender love and care. I'm sure you knew this before purchasing a RX7.

i good running solid 13bt with typical bolt ons will throw all doubts of piston engine swaps out the window.

Rebuild it yourself
It's actually quite easy to build a running engine. Just grab the Atkins [or other] video and it'll walk you through. [I built one alone, on the floor in my parents' garage with no engine building experience and it's still running great Of course, taking it to someone to have it built will yield a better engine because of their experience, and they can give you advice on keeping it in good condition for what you'll use it for]

....All of which is to say of course, keep it rotary! ^_-

We don't need ANOTHER rotary vs. V8 thread. Search for the existing ones.
