It's back!

Here's my story, it's a happy one if that matters.

I bought my RX-7 in Lawrence, KS in February of 2007. I had a blast with it for the next 6 months, I learned a lot about it from these forums/Haynes/FSM, I even took on my own clutch job with minor issues (mixed up the reverse light plug). One warm summer night I was out driving enjoying myself. I pulled up to a stop light only for the engine to die. I used what momentum I had left to roll myself around the corner and started checking my hoses. I limped it home and for the next few months annoyed the forums with "Help, won't run!" threads and put quite a few miles on my Haynes manual pages. It was no help, I had a cracked apex seal... A blown engine...

I was broke and couldn't even afford the $400 to pay for a factory reman I found less than 4 miles from my house (Most people in that situation would kill for that). So I sold the car for $1000 to John in Missouri. John called me a week later to let me know he had already installed his Atkins reman, 4 piston brake calipers, tokico struts, and Racing beat header, also to tell me that I'm a dumb *** and I need to officially register a vehicle before I sell it (I know I'm dumb and lazy). So I did the right thing and had him bring me the title so I could take care of it.

I ran around for a week to find out what I needed to register the car and get it in his name as fast as possible, but Kansas wanted me to be insured on the vehicle before I could ever register it. Fortunately Missouri didn't, so I registered the car under my name at Johns address. He went on his way, and I went back to work.

John called me 10 days later to let me know that the title had arrived, and by this time I learned that I would get to go back to school (whole different story) and along with the school would come a $6000 check for living expenses. Needless to say an RX-7 is a living expense. So I told him to hold onto the car for a week so i could get the money.

I got the check the Jan. 19th, the bank wanted to hold it until the 29th. I convinced the branch manager that the sooner I had the money the better. The check cleared Jan. 24th. I bought the RX-7 back for $2100 with T2 wheels, stock struts, and stock calipers today, Jan. 25th.

Thanks to anyone who reads this, it must have seemed boring to you, but I had to share what is an exciting story to me with everyone here.

Now down to business, the oil pressure guage reads 0 even though the oil is full, and the water temp guage never gets above the second bold line.

1989 RX-7 GTU 112k on chassis, Atkins Re-manufactured 13b with 12k, what john calls a "bare block mod". I guess he just removed EVERYTHING.

Any advice where to start?

I have BOTH those problems and never got an adequate answer.

The real start and finish an FC needs is suspension work... That's my advice

I don't think the stock gauges were ever that great.
The Oil Pressure gage is known to be teh suck but mine was caused by the sending wire that snapped.

the oil pressure sensor is notorious for coming disconnected, or the wires become frayed and just don't make contact. After market gauges are really a better option. Water temp is sort of the same story. The stock water temp gauge can't be trusted, so really who cares, where it's at. Get an aftermakert one.

Water temp gauge solved. There was no tstat in... I already yelled at john for not telling me. I installed a stant today and it operates like normal. Another problem though, it idles at 1300 and i can not get it down for the life of me. Adjusted the tps and idle set screw, nothing.

A brief update. No pictures yet, but I really don't like to show off work in progress, I'd rather wait until it's finished.

I solved the idle issue. He had the coolant lines disconnected and blocked off from the AWS. I reconnected them and the thermowax functions normally now. The oil pressure guage is disconnected from the oil pressure sensor, but the plug for it is nowhere to be found. i bet the dumb *** thought he was "deleting unnecessary wiring" and cut it off. I have at this point sanded and primed the hood, headlight covers, and drivers side fender. It's hard to find time to do the body work with work and school.
Found out tonight that the tokico struts that were installed were actually tokico luminas with the 5 way settings on them, that was a nice little suprise.
Last week I went up to St. Joseph, MO and bought a back seat and all the trimmings, new antennae+motor, and glove box door for 150. Installed all that friday/saturday of last week. Speaking of glove box door. Does anyone have any idea how I could pry mine open without breaking it? The latch seems to have broken on me and I can't get it to open at all, it will push all the way in and not come back out. I've tried using the key and everything (it's the stock lock, not from the new one I switched them out.)?

So far so good, I'm gonna get some new tires this week, any suggestions?
