Good afternoon! Something odd has occured and I'm trying to solve or resolve what I believe to be a switch issue.
Either the dome light switch has failed causing power to bleed by? or something else is not correct. Nothing else has changed and I just noticed it last night when i had the car in the garage and everything OFF.
With the dome light switch in OFF I am seeing power bleed by (around 7-8 volts) Causing the LED dome light to slightly illuminate. With the switch in the ON position the light is seeing 12 volts and bright. With the switch on the DOOR position and either door OPEN, the LED is seeing 12 volt and very bright. Both DOOR switches turn the LED OFF as it should.
Any thoughts on this? Has the switch assembly simply failed?
Thanks!
I changed every possible bulb from tungsten to LED. This is only one of the quirks I discovered.
It is likely current bleeding through the switch providing enough to make the LED glow. A tungsten bulb would need a lot more current to illuminate. I don’t imagine anything can be done. The bleed is likely just a few milliamps so no danger of running your battery down.
It would be interesting to add a small resistor across the LED bulb (drawing enough current to imitate a tungsten bulb) and see what effect that had.
Other quirks, like the stop light warning in the warning & clock cluster when LEDs are used for the stop lights can be easily remedied by removing the warning bulb .
