Installing clutch. Any tips/suggestions?

I have done clutches on other cars before -but not an FC.

Any suggestions?

I have the clutch, pp, throw out and pilot bearings as well as a re-surfaced flywheel.

Impact gun
3/8 ratchet
assorted metric sockets/wrenches 8mm-23mm and the 52mm for the FW

about covers it right? pretty straight forward from what it looks like.

when you are putting the tranny back on, tilt the motor down by jacking up the crank pulley with a wooden block

Manual I have suggests having a plastic bag ready and covering the trans right away to catch leaking fluid. I have some contractors bags laying around that should do the trick

I actually bought the car not too far away from you.

^^^^^^^ yes it is. umm one of the top tranny bolts is a major pain to get to. if you have a extended reach wrench then you will be fine. its the one that also holds the rear engine lift bracket on.

something i did that helped me a lot on reinstall was taking a ratchet strap( just the strap part) under the rear of the trans and through the shifter hole. then you lock each end in the doors when the trans is is as high as you want it to be. it will alow you to move the tranny around a little easier when reinstalling.

well I found out what caused the clutch failure... besides being a bit worn... the front cover of the trans was leaking fluid pretty good and it looks like the clutch disc was contaminated. Also discovered the Oil filter mount was leaking bad too, looks like it is very possible that may have got into the bell housing as well.

Once I found this I went to look for the o-rings with no luck then called it a day... today I"m going to reseal the front cover and put it back together. It could use a output seal -but the engine is coming out again soon and I need to DD it now

I use ratchting tie downs for all kinds of stuff! I actually did the reverse of what your saying to get the trans out... -but I hooked to the frame rails and used pieces of 2x4 to shim the trans where I wanted it to be.

for the top tranny bolt 24" extension and an impact gun made it a breeze

try not to put too much pressure on the crank pulley if you want to tilt the motor. heard that it could bend the nose of the E shaft.

the pilot bearing is going to need a blind hole puller with a small slide hammer.

hope you are using a lift. if you need tranny mounts make sure you get them before you finish.

the engine tips on the STOCK mounts fairly easily. shouldnt take much to give it an angle to mate the tranny up to. of course im lazy and my engine comes out in an hour so always pull the entire engine and trans together

Yeah in the future I will be doing this...

when I got the trans out I was thinking to myself I could have pulled the engine in the same amount of time...

The engine is coming out soon anyways for a swap into another chassis. Now that I have had the trans out I could do it in 1/2 the time... I just did not wanna break anything... the car is 21-22 years old!

OK all done...

well has been done for a few days...

as for the bolt on the top of the tranny? 24" extension and a universal joint socket makes it a breeze.

To tilt the engine back I hooked a ratcheting tie down to each strut tower and ran it under the crank pulley... worked like a charm!

The ACT un-sprung 6-puck is pretty nasty.

Next weekend the diff goes in!

Thanks for the helpful tips!

I love it... -but it is very much an on/off engagement. The car is not going to be a daily driver for much longer -so I'll deal with the harsh engagement for now.
