Injector grommets
Injector grommets
ok, im rebuilding my motor over Christmas break. I just got everthing pulled off the motor, hopefully will open up the motor this weekend. anyway. i know new O-rings for the injectors are a must, but what about the grommets? there all hard. there not expensive so if i should get some i will. but if its not realy necisary i wont waste money.
im srue this is the 1st post of many to come. already have a factory manual, and the hayns manual, and the rebuild video should be here on thusday!

I've only done a few rebuilds and never replaced them. That said, I always felt dumb as a rock as I put them back in and cussed at myself for being so damn cheap as to not have bought them. So a couple of weeks ago I ordered up 12 o'ring and grommet sets. A set for the spare turbo engine I've rebuilt and some spares so I don't get caught out next time. I can't believe I would spend all that dough on rebuilding one and then go cheap on a couple of grommets and 0'rings. A charater flaw of sorts. Secretly like to gamble I guess. I vote to change them.
yeah i found out the hard way too, atleast i only had my injectors cleaned compare to a complete rebuild. The new grommets are in the mail becuz my current ones leak. How do i get those lower grommets out? i don't want to break anything or something, they are really hard.

You should change them. Better safe than REALLY sorry. However, they are not cheap, for a small rubber part. When I bought some from the dealer 4 months ago, the o-rings were like $5/ea and the grommets were like $3.50/ea. So figure about $50 for the parts. Jay

Are you referring to the small o ring on the top of the injector and the fatter rubber grommet on the bottom? If so they are a must to change out any time the injectors are removed.
If you are referring to the diffusers that are located in the bottom of the injector bore (brown colored plastic thingies) they are supposed to be hard. There is no need to replace them unless they are clogged or broken. Most of the time these diffusers can be "unclogged" by using a small diameter wire or an acetylene torch tip cleaner. Careful with these. They are abour 20 bucks each to replace.
