I'm so confused
I've been seeing a lot of talk about S4 and S5 and the most I can figure out is that it has something to do with the turbo configurations. I'm kinda new to RX7s so any help you guys can give me would be great, if someone wanted to give a run down of the main components in the rx7 that would be great. I do know exactly how rotary works so that isn't necessary, but you can if you feel like it.
Thanks in advance
Dave

Ok... are you asking the differences between a S4 and S5 car? Or the turbo in particular?
Please be a bit more specific.
Also check the FAQ, and Archives, as well as search, you'll most likely find your answer.

s4 is a second gen rx-7 from 1986-88
s5 is a second gen rx-7 from 1989-1991 (92's were produced in 91 and sold as a 92)
Differences well for n/a's they have almost 20hp more,
different front bumper
different tails lights (s4 square blocks, s5 is 2 round circle brake lights)
more difference but im to lazy right now

turbos had roughly 20hp more, lighter rotors, higher compression rotors
different ecu, bettered some problems with flooding, different manifolds and sensors
turbine housing had larger wg openings
If you want to know basic operations of rotary motors it would probably be benficial just to do a search on google or something, diagrams and clips would be better at explaining it than myself.

Thanks guys, I get it now. I was thinking that s4 and s5 were different turbo configs, not the difference between 2nd generation rex's. I've got a line on a '91 TII right now so pleeaaase cross your fingers and toes

Just wanted to point out they have lower compression rotors than N/A's, not higher.
