Question VIN #'s wrong???

I was just doing some research on my 7 on carfax.com....I put my vin # in to see what came up....it said my 7 was a "1987 1.3 FI Turbo".....it's not a turbo....So I went on autotrader.com to get some other vin #'s off non-turbo models to see what it said and all it said was 1987 1.3 FI......no turbo anywhere....and then I checked some VIN's on some turbo's and it said the same thing as it did when I put my VIN in.....whats the deal with that.....everything else was good to go....never salvaged or wrecked or anything like that....has anybody else ever used this carfax company??? I'm a little confused on whats going on....any info would be helpful. Thanks, Z

Carfax is usually pretty good about it. Sometimes it does mess up, though.

Because the VIN layout changed slightly between the 86-88 FCs and the 89-92 FCs, occasionally carfax "see's" the VIN as one that reports having a different motor than it does.

I would not worry about it the least bit.

If it is a Turbo it will have a "2" in the 8th digit, and a non-turbo will have a "1".

Carfax is usually very accurate, I have ordered 2 reports and they both corresponded with what the sellers said, and it reported the model correctly. Good luck with the new ride (if you buy it)!

i had the same thing happen to my car when i went to carfax. it said mine was a turbo but its not. the only odd thing about my car is that they had two different exhusts for the rx7. one for the turbo and one for the non turbo and somehow my car ended up with the turbo exhust. i am not complaining, but it was a little wierd. anyway, good luck with the car, if you get one that works...you will have a blast driving it.

lots of cars are reported as turbo on carfax. this question comes up at least once a month.
