im new!!! help...

ok... so lets just get this out of the way... im new as friggin possible to all this rotary business. when i got the car i figured that i could get by on what lil knowledge i knew about internal combustion engines... bad idea number one!

so after i searched a bit... i notice that everyone will say that a koyo rad is just ANOTHER way to bullet proof a trouble spot but never truely fix it... my problem with that is if that is what it is then whats the true fix since everyone acts like its not the best idea just an ok one?! i really want to know since i already have a koyo sitting here next to me. bad habbit... saw a good deal and pounced on it before i even owned the car but atleast i own one now to fit the radiator right?! yeah whats the true fix?! have an e-fan also... cant seem to find a way to fit it... its a 16" and basic in design. the mounting hardware doesnt give any suggestions to install and i havent found any thread on how someone went about installing the radiator and e-fan. any write would be soooooo much appreciated! also i do understand that one mans floor is another mans ceiling but with all philisophical bull crap aside... just tell me what might be tricky please?!

another bulletproofed problem situation is the electrical just learned my tail lights dont work... nice considering ive driven for almost a week before noticeing and still havent gottena ticket. but yeah searched on that and found some quick fixes but still the same old... people raggin on it saying this is just putting a band aid on a praverbial afermath of the business end of a bullet. so whats the true fix?! a whole new electrical set up?! is that justifiable?! remember im ultra
green to all this so telling me a bunch of abrieviations isnt getting me anywhere really. i understand the screwed up wire and switch and i know where the switch is but have no real idea where the hell the wire goes to after the switch. im assuming the fuse unit. i know im probably wrong so fill me in please.

also... i need LOCAL people to talk to and see so they can show me what to do. im very visual and personal so posting doesnt really do me any justice especially if i only post when im fustrated, low on moral, and questioning why i own a seven(but for what ever reason i cant seem think of anything so great as this motor and the layout of the car). so yeah if anyone is local to sacramento and/or the 916 area code id be greatful to know that someone else knows that this isnt a naturally aspirated 1.3 liter 4 PISTON motor i got in here! theres alot of rich bitches and clueless ***** out here so i cant ask for too much info about my motor to people i see evreyday. just a nice pep talk of what i should expect would be nice! also since i dont have a turbo maybe that also might change a thing or 2 about how i take in info. so far theres only a hand full of people who care about rotaries here in south sac and they are all turbo and paid someone else to do allll the work including the picking of the parts so im **** out of luck.

so far i love this car... even with all its faults that im coming across... every fault i see as a hurdle to cross and im actually alright with that. lost a girlfriend to get this car. so its taking her place. more money and more time goes into the seven than any girl ive met so far. fine by me. i just want some info and maybe just maybe someone i can catch some coffee with and talk about the car. well i know im not the smoothest and probably sounded rude during alot of that, but i apologize now for that since im hung over already and have not really been given a solid answer about this stuff no matter how hard i search. take care everyone! and i hope you all keep the rounded triangle close to your heart! bye...

First of all, start with the stickies at the top of the threads list.
There's a wealth of information in there that's a good start.

Second, you might want to try and break down your problems into different threads.
You might think you're "hogging" bandwidth, but most people find it easier to follow (and reply) one problem in each thread.

As for the Koyo rad...
Do you own a turbo or a non-turbo?
Non-turbo...that's fine.
For a turbo with mild mods...that's fine.
Turbo running big mods, it's not adequate cooling.
Thus the conflict of information.

How's that for a start?

As covered in the FAQ for FC stiky thread at the top of this section, you tail light problem is probably the headlight switch. You would want to remove the gauge surround and look at the back of the switch. It is probably burnt. I should have more rebuilt headlight switches instock next week.

hey right on folks! thanks for the info. as for the car its an 87 gxl with minimal mods(RB catback exhaust, testpipe, zipped tied my secondaries open, and open intake element)so i figure the cooling should be sufficient when the koyo, new water pump, and e-fan is in.

yeah there is alot of space to play with in the engine bay but im more concerned about any modifications or custom fab ill have to whip up to get it to fit. for the most part people seem to be very vague about what had to be done. also do anyof you know if there is any kind of e-fan install kit?! my buddy at work said that fluidyne makes a "universal" instal kit but i havent looked into it yet and wont be able since im now limited on my online time.

yeah ive been lookin for the thread that explains how to spot and remove everything for the switch cuz i seem to have a nack for breaking the brittle 18 year old plastic. think i found it just now though.

anyhow, thank you all for the input. later...

What would you say "adequate" cooling would be for a koyo? Hp-wise

Fix your secondaries. You gain nothing by wiring them open, and you lose torque down low.

so i figure the cooling should be sufficient when the koyo, new water pump, and e-fan is in.
Cooling should be sufficient with the stock cooling system. Are you having an overheating problem? If the stock system is in good shape you don't need any additional cooling.

i thought i had to zip tie my secondaries open since i couldnt create any back pressure to actuate the secondaries because of the test pipe?

as for overheating. yeah i did but it was the water pump when i did it i noticed that the rad was SUPER screwed/bashed on the lover half. im suprised it wasnt leaking at all. so i figured id replace and upgrade so i went to the koyo.

thanks a bunch those sites you posted are friggin awesome! damn! that was exactly what i was lookin for! thanks again! noice.

There are port activation instructions in the archives using both the air pump and electronic activation.
