idle sometimes wont drop
idle sometimes wont drop
everytime i drive my 7 this seems to happen. everytime i stop at a stop sign or light the rpm drops like its supposed to but gets stuck at about 1,100 rpm. i can force the rpms down by letting out the clutch alittle to force it down and it stays down. wtf is this??
try blipping the throttle while in neutral when your idle gets stuck at a stop. That's not a fix, but at least you'll get your idle to settle where it's supposed to be. I'm not quite sure why the idle gets stuck like that.....anyone?
I had this problem on my 88 NA, I adjusted the TPS, (Throttle Position Sensor) with a voltmeter got it back into the right range at idle, but then found it wouldn't always reset all the way to 1K Ohms, getting stuck a little higher at times. (These TPS sensors are apparently notoriously finicky.)
I next lubed all the moving exterior throttle parts with WD-40, and worked the lubricant in by repeatedly running the throttle through it's range of motion with the engine off.
This seemed to do it. If you can't get 1K Ohm at rest and you don't get a smooth sweep throught the TPS range, you'll need to replace it.
You'll also want to adjust the idle set screw after getting the TPS dialed in.
Here's a good TPS adjustment DIY guide...
