Lightbulb Ideas for removing rust?

I wanted to say thanks again for the warm welcome to the furum

But more importantly, i was wondering what you guys use to remove rust. My brake rotors are really nasty with rust all over except for the part the pad hits of coarse. Can you guys gimmie any brands or methods you would use?

Thanks a million!

Remove the rust with a wire brush or wire wheel attached to a drill. Once the rust is removed, clean the surface well, and tape off the shiny braking surface. Then apply a few light coats of dull black engine paint or some BBQ paint to the freshly cleaned surface and they will stay nice and black for some time. I did this on my vert and it has worked quite well. I need to do it to the Project 86 now since the sprinklers hit the wheels Oh well, the car comes back into the garage for modifications after the November 9th track day

On cast iron parts like brake master (and I suppose rotors) with a full patina of rust I like to use Ospho to convert it all to a uniform, hard, noncorroding black surface (Iron phosphate? I think). Brush off loose rust first it converts rust so texture doesn't change.

Thanks fc3s.org and BLUE TII, i got them removed and i think im going to paint the rusty part black. Im still wondering what kind of solution to use to remove the rust though. This is probably a stupid question but do they make rotors that wont rust after driving in the rain? Please excuse my ignorance

Buy one of these, use a metal wire wheel to remove the rust. I did this on my frame, and took less than 5 minutes to do. Next you want to spray rust preventive paint, and then paint some folatech paint on your rotors.

get the 3" sanding disks and the adapter that fits into your drill (home depo, ace, lowes, any hardware store). Buying that expensive grinder is just a waste unless you plan on using it regularly.
