You are being optimistic.
After lubing my sunroof tracks (but not removing and doing a thorough rebuild...too lazy), my roof works properly maybe one out of every ten times.
The other nine require the traditional "nudge assist".

It's like the clock, really.
Weeks go by with the clock working and then inexplicably it disappears for a few days only to come back on it's own.
I think it's a union member and we're negotiating a new contract under duress.

The oil must have just taken a while to seep to where the bind was.

FWIW- The roof is not designed to be water tight. Water that seeps by the rubber edging gets caught by the inside drip pan & drained to the 4 corner drain tubes.
If the rain is not blowing too much, the roof can be tilted & water will still not be a problem.

I'll agree with clokker, here. Rain, I doubt, would fix it. It was probably a "good day" for it. You'll more than likely have to do the whole 10 yards on your sunroof..

Flush the crap out of them with more WD-40 and keep cycling it open & closed until gear tapes & tracks come clean.
Then lube it with motorcycle chain lube or white lithium grease in a spray can.

Also - Is the motor getting good voltage?
You can check for corrosion on the switch connectors & contacts.

yeah don't just leave it at WD-40, its main design is for cutting through rust

actually, its main design is water displacement. (WD = Water Displacement).

My bad, I just read what it stood for the other day and I forgot it already. I'd edit if I could.

MY car fixed itself. It couldn't hold idle for a solid year then in January it started holding idle again. I have an explanation for this one though. When I got my car, it was February of 06 and it had to manually stay powered by the right foot, held to about 1,100 RPM or so until about 30 minutes of regular driving then could idle at stoplights. Well I was showing someone my remote start system (which for the aforementioned reasons was kind of useless) and the car just kinda stayed on. Well I figured the thermostat used to be stuck open and the coolant would flow through the engine freely even at low temperatures and it wasn't warm enough to hold idle. I guess the cold of winter the 2nd year around after having a few miles put on her (previously garage kept most of the time) made the metal finally shrink enough to shut the thermostat and boom, it opens and closes fine.
