I need advice

Just so everyone knows, i used the search button and didn't get anything that helped me out. I recently bought an 87 Turbo II (which was already streetported when i bought it). My neighbor has a first gen and he's been trying to talk me in to getting a partial b-port. My goal is 275-300hp. I want to know if it's even worth getting the partial bridge and loosing low end power, and drivability, or should i find another way to get my hp goal?... like a big-*** turbo I also read that a streetport doesn't change the exhaust note at idle unless it was done incorrectly, is there any difference in the tone?(i still have the stock exhaust bolted up). Thanks for any help in advance. - Craig

Personally, I'd save the bridge port for a track car. Low-end is what you're gonna want most on the street...

Who says a partial B-ported motor wont have torque?

Hondas have like 85lb-ft and can do just fine...

Well for 275-300 you don't need a bridgeport. Its not worth tearing the engine apart anyways unless you have to already. Just get the proper fuel and controlled, full exhaust, intake with a custom TID and upgrade the turbo and fmic and you should be there.

This is Craig's brother and we had a couple more questions. It is in the shop now in the process of getting rebuilt. It was already streetported by the previous owner and he is trying to decide to do the partial bridge port or just stick with a streetport. Will he be able to use the top end that the partial B-port would give? (Considering he has the stock turbo) Plans are for a turbo upgrade later down the road. Would he be able to use a piggyback like SAFC if he kept stock turbo or would he have to get something like a haltec if it was partial bridged?

You don't need a Haltec but it would certainly help, if the motor is already torn apart you might as well go for it and deal with the driveability problems later. By the way torque should never be a concern for a rotary owner, 1.3 liters will never make good torque unless you put it on the bottle. Just launch it hard if you need to move it!
