Lightbulb I need 6TH gear in my fc!!!!!

what tranny could I put in to make this happen with few mods as posabile. I'm running a j-spec tranny right now that I dont really like cuz when if 5th I'm already at 4500 on my a-spec I chilled at 3500...but when I hit 150 I start to top out. In the a-spec I did 172, in 5th at 6700rpm. anyone have any ideas??

I didn't think there was a difference in JDM and US transmissions....

but if you are looking at getting a higher top speed, you could throw some higher gears in your diff... some 3.90's or something. Would lower your acceleration, but would increase your top speed.

Also, most stock 6 speed transmissions aren't any better than a stock 5speed transmission.. I can go faster at the same RPM's in 5th as my friend can in his car in 6th....

LS1 tranny is the only one I even like. Next to the dogmatic 6-speed sequential...

Anyone one else see a problem with needing 6th gear so the car can go over 172mph using 5th gear?

agreed with the 3.90 diff. the autos are 3.90 so maybe one of those.

3.90 diff wont work unless you can find a JDM TII that had an auto (which is rumored to exist)

an NA auto diff is a 7" 3.90

if there was a TII auto diff it would likely be an 8" 3.90

if you find one, let me know. i want one too.

I have an NA auto diff if you want it.

I don't think he is driving on the interstates...he said:
In the a-spec I did 172, in 5th at 6700rpm.
I'm assuming thats some sort of race class.

150 is already too fast. any faster you will end up dead eventually. unless this is a highly modified race car. i dont care how stable it feels at 150, anywhere but the race track ANYTHING is likely to happen that can kill you. a rock, a rabbit, a deer, a pothole, a CAR. it might be fun to do once or twice i admit, but why mod the car to go faster when you only go that fast a few times. if you do it often you are putting a lot of stress on that engine and endangering your life greatly. but go ahead and kill yourself becuase i dont give a rats ***.

why would you want a 6th gear on a 2nd gen? it wouldn't make your car any faster. remember, when u get pulled over doing over 100, you're wreckless driving and you'll be going to jail. think about it, it's not worth it.

My guess is you need more power not a different gear. Unless you are geared for you top MPH close to your top HP you won't go any faster by changing the tranny. Dropping your RPM in top gear could slow you down or at least keep you from accelerating any more.

people these days just forget how to read.
both i and the original poster were pointing to the fact that at highway cruising speed, the engine is at 4k. not the fact that the car tops out at 150, but that the engine revs seem abnormaly high for the highway.
open your eyes and read the whole thing.

Heres an idea. Slow down.

Where the hell are you driving 172 mph? I cant imagine its at a track. even with a TII you are going to need a long stretch of road to hit that speed. If its on the interstates you are a ******* moron and please stop. If you want to kill yourself a 12 guage will do the job just fine and not take anyone else with

Mica: Yes, it removes him, and frankly I couldnt care less about him. Its the innocent family, college kid, long haul trucker, or your father that he kills with him that bothers me.

WTF is your "highway cruising speed" Must be something over 85mph. I always thought most 6 speeds didn't give you more overdrive gears, they give you closer ratios on the underdrive side of the transmission.

Not rumored, EVERY 2nd gen in Japan was turbo.

If you want 6 gears I guess the only choice is the Supra or Corvette/F-body transmissions. The RX-8 transmission is far too weak, the RX-8 people break them and they make about as much torque than a STOCK T2.

6 speeds transmissions don't usually give you taller overdrive but with the closer ratios you can match them to a taller rear end and get the same effect without losing acceleration.

Unless you have great big tires 6700 is not 172 mph, it's more like 160, which is still pretty fast.

ok people people let me set you all straight......ok yes I am doing this on the highway(2-3am)....no there is no one around but maybe one car....I am very careful when doing my top speed runs....I look at far in front of me as possible my tires are z rated, No I don't do this all the time only when its about 50 outside or less and very late at night. And I only hit 172 once and like I said it was on my a-spec....on my j-spec I cant do that it tops at like 160 or so. See I'm what you will call a 3000$ car hunting down 40,000$ cars.....its fun to see their faces when a 17 year old car beats the snot out of a car that a year or a few months old. for anyone who was on the ride back with me from Dave's meet we came across a 07 Porsche 911 ....came up next to it 3 beeps and I was gone when I shifted into 4th his jaw droped when I started pulling away....you can only imagine the amazingly happy feeling that shoots threw my body...with all the blood sweat and tears that have gone into my car its such an amazing feeling you have no clue(or maybe you do :-)....But please dont think of me as some stupid kid who hauls *** everywhere all the time like that, normal freeway driving I try to keep it under 90....its kinda hard to go slow with this car.

You cant hit 200 in this car. First of all its gear limited. You would need a custom rear end. Secind it takes a butt load of power and good aerodynamics to hit 200. The C6 Z06 is only good to 198 mph and its rated at 505 hp. Most people are dynoing mid 400's at the wheels, so its certainly underrated. 200mph+ is almost an unpassable number on a street driven car. There is a reason why only a few cars on the raod are capable of it, and why the Bugattis 252 is absolutely ridiculous.
