Exclamation i am new and trying to figure out what this is for.....

When i bought this car a year ago all i knew about rotary's was that they were not hurt by high rev's.And i thought that since i like to race, a REX was my best choice. just recently i looked under the hood of my car and found this cord not connected... i thought it had something to do with my power management (like when you turn the AC on or the heater or the lights it would rev the engine higher so that your battery doesn't loose the charge it is supposed to get from the alternator). But after connecting the cords the idle will surge between 750 - 1.5k every second (with nothing on... no power being used other than for the motor). Also when connected if i step on the gas, it continues to surge....

if you want to see pics or see movies of what my car does just send me a PM with your e-mail addy and i will send them to you...

can anyone help me out?

P.S. (time to show how new i am here and how i don't know much about cars) what is "tps

Throttle Position Sensor....can't you just describe the location, color of connector, color of wiring, etc on this "cord" you connected to make it easier on us?

ok lets try this the cord is black and it comes out close to where the throttle is... if you are looking at your engine from the hood it is close to the back of the motor (farther away from the headlight) i don't know how else to explain it without the pic....

what color connector? how many individual wires on the plug (I'm assuming you're refering to an electrical harness and not an actual CORD)

3 things come to mind from what you've said so far:
1) the O2 sensor harness/ plug (at the very back of the eng, on the right side)
2) the port air solenoid valve connector (black plug, 2 wires, right side of the engine, about 1/2 way back)
3) the TPS wiring/ connector (right below the throttle linkage on the front of the TB, 3 wires)
