Huge amounts of smoke
Just got my 87 Tii running and did a compression test. mid 100's on front and mid 80's on rear. The thing is when it starts it makes a pop noise and then about 5 seconds later it stalls and then the smoke screen of the century. All over the neighborhood. its like fog except it smells a little like fuel maybe. Anybody seen this?

Sounds like coolant seal is out and your burning coolant and a little oil (omp) at the same time. If it stops after the motor warms up then it is usually coolant seal=rebuild. coolant seals would have nothing to do with compresion and how the car will run......it may even pass smog. But when you shut it off coolant seeps into the chamber over night as the engine cools off. Then when you start it again......smoke screen that would make basil and Austin Powers jealous.

Most say a coolant system pressure test. But you would have to patch every coolant leak in the system B4 you could isolate this to be the problem and from my earlier thread I am not the one to ask about cooling systems.

It could be the turbo. Start it up and let it do its smoke job. Turn it off and pull the turbo inlet duct. If the turbo is leaking at the compressor side you should see dripping oil in the duct and at the turbo inlet duct connection.
If it's dry, then drop the downpipe and look for dripping oil from the back side of the turbo.
If neither is wet with oil........engine problems or some sort. Maybe a stuck injector??? Swap the primary with the secondary injecotors to see if the problem goes away at idle or reving in the driveway.
Are you losing water???????? Bad engine. Pukes water in the overflow? Bad engine/possible bad radiator cap. If the radiator cap is good then bad engine.

The injector was a outside shot. The turbo was from personal experience with a hybrid turbo that leaked in the front or compressor side. Dripped oil from the intercooler, duct, all over the place. So if I''m saying if the smoke is that bad, when you pull the intercooler off it will drip oil IF the oil is coming from the compressor side of the turbo.
