Hows your A/C doing?

Hows your A/C doing?
Here are some results from a recent drive in Dallas.
Stop and go traffic I-635 LBJ Freeway
Highest fan speed
Recirculation on
Outside temp was 96*.
My center vent temps in stop and go traffic were stable in the 39*f +/- .5*f.
I was able to snap some cell phone pics during the stops.
Mods:
R12 (mod?) The Real Deal.
Ford Taurus Radiator fan. The fan automatically turns to high speed when the compressor operates, low speed is temperature controlled on at 200* off at 195*.
Evans NPG+ Coolant.
Later on the way home, in traffic moving an average of 25 mph, the temps were in the 34-35* range. I didn't snap any pics this time, as I was busy surviving another trip down I-635 LBJ.
What this cannot really capture is how rapidly the car cools down and also how little difference there is between idling in stop and go traffic and driving down the highway.
This Taurus fan on high speed is simply amazing! The A/C is stable and cold. In traffic when the A/C compressor cycles, sometimes the fan turns off because the radiator temp is below 200*.
Very cool, highly recommended.

I had mine R134 converted and charged about a month back. Things get cool, but midday its SO hot and there's so much glass in the FC that its hard to get it "cool". It gets comfortable, but doesnt get "cool".
I need to install the a/c fan in front of the condensor and radiator, because my car does not have one installed. I hope this helps with the cooling as well as the engine temp with the a/c system on.
I'm thinking of having my windows tinted darker and even getting a tint on the windshield (illegal, yes, but.... well, you know how it goes).

I have a noob Question. You can make a custom A/C system for the FC or you have to buy the original system? I have no A/C and I want to install it cause it suck big time driving around without it...

What is your middle vent temperature at idle and driving down the road at 50 mph? Use recirculate mode and high fan. Let the car cool down as much as it can, measure the temps. If you cannot get 45*-50* at idle and 40*-45* at 50 mph, then the system is not working very well. This would indicate another bad 134a conversion.
Florida is a really tough environment. You should really try the Freeze 12 for Florida. Except for R12, nothing works as well. R134 is NOT a good idea for FC's. The condenser is not large enough and the fan doesn't pull enough air to work well with 134a. It will work fine with Freeze12.
Good luck!

There were no survivors
I wouldn't know... i turn it on from time to time (well certain passengers do) and we're never in the car long enough to really know.... that and the fact my car will randomly stall out sometimes coming off of revving with it on... should look into that... maybe.

You can get it done at a local A/c shop. If you want to try it yourself, read up at the A/C forums. Those guys are really helpful.

but i had a friend do it to his 240sx and it worked great,.. so im tempted to try it on the fc.. just wondering if anyone did it?

I think I can live with the S5 alt. until later this summer when I redo the sound system. I will either have to go with the FD alt. or have mine rewound to put out more like 100-125 amps.

I have nothing against windows but when driving in a 400whp+- with the normal hight rotary engine temperatures and tropical island with fckng humidity, you realize how important an A/C is sometimes....

The FC is really not a good candidate for R134a conversion. There is not enough condensor area. Use freeze12 instead. You can buy it on ebay. Lots of FC guys in Arizona do just fine with the Freeze12.
No, I did not upgrade. I have a relatively new alternator (1 year old) that works very well. The Taurus fan pulls about 21-22 amps on low, with a 30 amp startup spike then on high it pulls about 25-27 amps with a 38-39 amp startup spike. These are not my numbers, they are from a mustang forum. My voltage dips right when the fan starts, but recovers right away and runs 13.8-14 volts.
