How to test starter?
hook up negative from a battery to the starters body. hook 12v to the starter solenoid's post.(the one that doesn't have the wire going to it from the starter itself.)
then take a wire that has 12v coming out of it and hit that on the tab that comes out of the solenoid.

i've grounded the body of the starter and conected the Male conector (the one thats a small wire) to power and the starter gear moves forwords in the starter to engae the flywheel, but then what do i do with the other post (the one that the nut was conected to)
found em.
a & c get 12v.

b, thats the way its supposed to be. the wire goes to the starter motors main body.

clarification:Uh A and C should get the Positive Lead of the booster cables to TEST(not 12 volts)..so you can throw the clamp across Both or get a small wire, attch it to A and C, and create One terminal to attach it to that way...the BODY of the starter goes to the Negative Clamp of the booster cables.(this is if you are using a battery hooked up to Booster cables to test the starter).
The POSITIVE booster cable to the *B*. Then put the NEGATIVE booster cable to the body of the starter, like one of its ears.
Then take a screwdriver shank and bridge the gap b/t the small blade (C), to the POSITIVE post (B).
Starter turns over when you do that. Ya coulda done that with the starter still in the car. Time saver. Except you would not need booster cables with the starter installed in the car. IF the starter was connected up correctely in the car. You'd just have to bridge b/t the small blade to the Positive post on the starter.

tested it and it works good, i went back underneath the car and took a look at the terminals, and as i suspected for a michigan car, they were quite coroded and dirty, not to metion a layer of gunk that was inbetween the bell housing and starter to obstuct a good ground. so i cleaned 'em up with a wire brush and put some contact jelly on them and now it works fine.
