How to repair stuck Thermo Valves in the Oil Cooler?

Familiar with the Oil Cooler but have never taken out.

If the Thermo Valves In the Oil Cooler are suspect of failure or are stuck, how do you repair It. Clean It out? Replace It? Anyone repaired/replaced these Valves?

Yea thinking that...Professionally cleaned.
IMO, the Valve should be cleaned out or replaced.

I'm just wondering If anyone has any direct experience with the Oil Cooler Bypass Valve?

ICEMARK has. Last summer I think. Might do a search for ICEMARK and something to do with oil thermo valve or something like that. Only thing I ever did with one is take it out and put it in a pot of boiling water. See FSM. It seems to expand and retract with heat(who'd a thought).

I think the valve to faily reliable. Not much to go wrong but you never know.

Why do you think yours has failed? Do you have high oil temps?

You can remove the valve and test it per the hayes manual or the fsm.

Quit Ironic...

A short while ago, someone posted low Oil Pressure readings. I suggested almost always It's the Oil Pressure Unit, from what I've seen and experienced, that Is suspect but Icemark suggest the Oil Bypass Valve.

Although I replaced the Oil Pressure Unit, I am suspecting It's this Valve. I think Icemark jinxed me.

Hum, there are two bypass valves in the car.

One is in the front of the eccentric shaft. When the oil hits a certain temp oil flows to the rotors.

The second is in the oil cooler. At aprox. 140°F oil is allowed to flow through the oil cooler.

The one in the shaft is more likely to fail than the oil cooler one. Just wondering which one you are thinking about.

Okay. Before anything else, I should mention that I replaced the Thermo Pellet with a dummy one.

I found the Thread you are talking about. https://www.rx7club.com/forum/showth...t=oil+pressure

It shows pics and how to remove and replace this Valve due to an Oil leak.

HAILERS///Did you replace It? Or did you experience faulty readings directly attributed to the Bypass Valve and It was corrected after cleaning It out?

Never ever had a problem with the oil bypass valve.
Had a problem with the front cover gasket. Had the wrong gasket in the kit. Blew oil past the o'ring. Threw the gasket away and used rtv per Mazdatrix. All's well.
Have had a bad oil pressure sensor in the past. Suggest using a mechanical gauge to check oil pressure. Its the only accurate way to validate the oil pressure.
For no particular reason I've got rid of the oil thermo pellet in the eccentric shaft on two cars. Didn't cost much. Did it on a whim. Can't find this device on MAZDATRIx today.

Strange how Mazdatrix doesn't sell this Valve. I'll have to buy this from Dealership If I replace It.

silver... u can shim it per ReTED's method of using washers... or you can buy one from atkins... i think its only 13.00 USD

and it ensures the engine receieves the correct amount of oil always

Zero Cheers! No reference made to Oil Bypass Valve. Infact, every Oil component but this Valve.

Also, Atkins makes no reference of the Oil bypass Valve.

Sorry. I got off track. I got talking about the part going into the eccentric shaft and not the oil bypass located in the oil cooler. Never have I bought or changed one of those. Never seen one on any of the sites, Mazdatrix. Racing Beat, Rotary Performance etc.

How does yours fail???? Or are you changing it because its a most likely suspect./? Have you put it in a pot of boiling water to see it the rod extends???

BlackRx7///Your link provides the replacement duumy pellet.

HAILERS///I have replaced the Oil Thermo Pellet, Oil Pressure Sender Unit and all new O Rings, gaskets with the reman unit.

Crossing down the list leads me to the Oil Bypass Valve. Although, I haven't removed this Valve I strongly suspect this Is the culprit. For that reason, Is why I asked, originally, how do you repair It. Clean It out? Replace It? Anyone repaired/replaced these Valves?

I doubt the failure of the valve in the oil cooler would affect oil pressure. I would probally look somewhere else. I believe it is the wrong tree to bark up.

There is really no way to repair the thermostat. If it is bad you replace it. Probally best to find it in a junk yard somewhere. If you just out to your car and take it out you will answer a lot of you questions about the valve.

Unless I missed it:

What year is your car?

Turbo or non turbo?

How many miles on the engine?

Who rebuilt it?

What is the oil pressure of the engine?

What are you using to read the pressure?

Why do you think low oil pressure (If you are basing your worrying on a stock gauge and a stock read out you are probally worrying for nothing.) My stock gauge shows about 50psi but my autometer shows 70psi at 3000 rpm. And before you go off on autometer it is about the same on a mechanical gauge also. It is the procomp ultralite gauge.
