I've read a lot of things saying dishwashing soap is bad for a car. It strips wax very well.

Car washing stuff is good.

Once a month.
That's because it's too friggen hot to stand outside and wash her. When it gets much cooler outside, Maybe once a week or two. Depends on my mood.

Speaking of washing her, I need to

You will see after a few months of this wash/day. stuff that your car no longer looks as new as it did before. It will get dull and you will B!@#$ about needing a new paint job. My Brother in law did this same thing with his 2001 Accent. Then when you get the car repainted some of you will ignore the painters directions and start washing your poor car right when you get it back and you know what will happen if you do that? Your paint will start flaking off. Ask one of my friends, thats what happened to his. If you ask someone that paints cars for a living they will tell you to wash/wax once a month and only dust/use water only when needed. I hope some of you guys don't seriously wash your poor cars every day anyways. That much water on the car all the time and you get a scratch...man that will lead to rust. poor poor cars.
just my $.02.
I wash/wax once a month and dust/water only in between when needed.

who the **** told you this ****?? really you dont hurt the clear coat. WTF i have been a detailer for 2 years i have gotten **** off paint that other detailers told the owners that would have to be wetsanded or repainted. i saved a member of this forum 500.00 at the rx7 bbq about 2 months ago. he had put a magnet on the side of his car for xcross. and the mosture left marks on his black paint and it looked bad. it was not in one spot but 3 on each side one big one on the door and i told him i would get it off when i came over and he said this dude thats been doing detailing for 4 years told him that it would have to be repainted or wet sanded and in 10 min i got one of the big spots out i showed him what to use...actually i gave him the rest of my chemical. and waxing once a month wont protect it as good as if you wax it as often as i do cause when you constantly wax it and you use a clearcoat wash then all you are doing is adding layers to the clear coat and protecting it. thats y i do it once a week and i will tell you my paint is gunna last forever. its so smooth. you are nuts sorry

I wash it about 1x per week and wax it about 1x per month. However I park my car in the garage. I also use a buffer for polish/wax every 3 months and go to town. 2 coats of polish and 1 coat of wax. The car looks awesome when done and totally slippery to the touch. Gives me 5mph on the top end .

White paint on these car really holds up well.

Yes, I do. I bought my FC new back in 1988. I hardly ever washed and waxed it (maybe 4 times a year), and despite the fact that I have never owned a garage, the 100+ deg Florida sun has been more kind to my car than wax has been to others' cars. Now, 14 years and 140,000mi later, the paint is not perfect, but it's all there, and the rust isn't.

BTW, the lovebugs were pretty hard on the front end, though.

"and the rust isn't..." maybe it cuz you live in florida. Try living somwhere where it snows for 1/4 to 1/3 of the year.

Had my GXL since about February '99.

Haven't washed it yet.

Then again it's only been out of the garage for about two hours in those 3+ years....

Holds up a hell of a lot better than BLUE does. (grr late '80s blue..... no matter what manufacturer it ALWAYS fades/peels badly)

is the white on FCs similar to the white on my SA where it would just absorb stains like a sponge and you'd constanly have to buff it out to keep it looking white instead of splotchy?

Yeah, what white decides to stay on the car and not peel off.

WTF was in the paints in the late 80's/early 90's? Lots of fading and peeling...

EPA-mandated switch to water-based (non-solvent) paints. Environmentally friendly, but after a couple years it biodegrades right off. For some reason blue is the worst offender. It used to be common to see cars with the roof, hood, and trunk to be coated with a layer of rust, and the sides would be psychedelically volored in varying shades of blue depending on how much it had faded in each particular spot, assuming the pain was still attached to the car.

I've seen the peel/fade thing happen often to black paint, and even some reds, but yours is the first white that I've head having that kind of problems.

i think blue aborbs more of the spectrum of light... (maybe)... but then again black should be the worst of all

I've seen several white FC's that are peeling, and lots of white early 90's GM products with no paint on the hood/roof/trunk.

My sunroof is all thats peeling right now though.
