acceleration stops flat out at 4000 rpms

i just took out my air pump and this seemed to be the start of the problem. i already had my cat off and the air pump still on there blowing fresh air under the engine... anyways, we took off the air pump and now when i accelerate, the rpms stop at 4000 rpms and it just stays flat and the BOV blows air out and the rpms dont raise after that and the car sounds like its bogging. anyone heard of this problem? car is an 87 T2 79k miles thanks guys. -jacob

Sounds like the secondary injectors aren’t firing. They come in at 3800rpm, and since they both then fire at half the duty cycle the primaries were running at before switchover, without them there’s only half the gas going in that the engine needs. Check all the wiring leading to the injectors.

Dunno, it does sound odd. Double check you haven’t knocked any wires off somewhere. Could just be a weird coincidence, I’m not sure what would actually stop the secondaries from working other than an ECU problem.

Do you have an FCD?
If it only does it when your boost gauge goes up then cuts out, then you NEED an FCD.

Sorry if you already have one.
If you dont, you can make one. Its an involved process and I hope your know how to read schematic diagrams.
