Question how much boost is too much???

i've been told by some "rotary experts" that 1 bar (14.7psi) is too much boost for a stock 13b (1988)... now i been running this amount of boost for a while without a problem... let's say that there's plenty of fuel, how much boost is too much for stock motor?

1 bar of boost might be the MAX u wanna run.

if you go MORE than that, you could ruin ur engine. it might not BLOW up or anything, it just will deteriorate quickly.

ive seen rotor faces that got warped, and rotor housings that were bowed outward cuz of excessive boost. its a good way to smoke ur rotors and housings. watch out.

I see you have a turbo upgrade and a bunch of other mods, however, I didn't read anything about an intercooler. At 14.7psi on an aftermarket turbo the stock intercooler will heat soak and the intake temp will raise in temperature. If the temperature gets too high, you might detonate and would have to rebuild your engine. So even if you have you air/fuel right, don't forgot intake temp.

I plan to upgrade to FMIC in a few weeks, but i can't decide if i should go wid a kit from greddy ($$$), or just buy the core from spearco ($300) and have the plumbing made and just install it myself.... i don't wanna go wid the kit unless i HAVE to.... how difficult is it to fabricate a FMIC setup by yourself?

good call Pouya, totally forgota bout that.

ur flowing mad amounts of air now bro, gotta cool that stuff down or you WILL blow a seal. for now, turn the boost down, keep it cool enuf to ur stock IC can work better.

dont forget about Blitz, they make IC's too. i might go w/ a kit.

talk to Crzycarlvr on aol, or email him at Crzycarlvr@aol.com, tell him Flubyux2 sent you, and see if he can get you a deal on an GReddy kit. btw, that guy, just bought a 3rd gen rx7, touring...hes caught the bug!

These are your limitations.

The stock boost sensor reads up to 15psi before it doesn't read any higher.

The stock turbo will puke it's (oil) seals anything over 15psi.

The stock ECU hits over 90% fuel injector pulsewidth anything over 14psi of boost.&nbsp "Safe" range is under 85%.

This doesn't even address the limitation of the stock intercooler.

12, maybe 12.5...

like Ted said, stay away from 14 psi and up...ur injectors will run erratically, hang open, maybe even break.

12 will keep you safe, and within the limitations of ur parts.

to getmore boost, think of a bigger IC, maybe an FMIC. big fuel injectors, and perhaps a walbro fuel pump. youll need an FPR too.
after that, youll be sittin in butter!

a different IC will net you about 2 more psi w/o even changing the settings. you can run it and feel safer, cuz itll lower the risk of detonation.

send an email to mazdatrix, ask them how much boost you can run w/ stock internals. theyll give you a short, sweet, and concise answer. they know what their gig is.
