How to Mod your stock airbox to flow better

Everytime I post in a thread about modding my airbox, I always get PM's asking how.

So, I decided to create a seperate thread for this, so that it can be easily search for if someone needs it, assuming they actually search.

First pic, If your car has a baffle here, put your hand in through the top and grab it. Rip that **** off. It's an air silencer, and getting rid of it will enlarge the cold air intake opening.

Second pic. Take the airbox lid off, look at the underside. You'll see another baffle, and yet again, it's an air silencer, but a HUGE restriction in airflow. I'll explain why with picture #3. Drill out the plastic rivets, as you can see it the pic, and it comes right off.

Third Pic. It's my K@N filter. See how the dirt pattern on it is rather uniform across 90% of it? That's a good thing, as we are maximizing surface area and thus, airflow. If you have that baffle in the airbox lid that you are about to remove, Your filter is dirty only on the left side and practically brand new looking on the right side. Look at the pattern of dirt on your filter, because that is where all your air is being pulled in.

There is nothing but good things to come out of removing these baffles. They are there to silence the intake, but really, you won't notice the difference in intake noise unless you have the hood open.

Do yourself a 10 minute long favor and get rid of that ****. It really only takes 10 minutes, does nothing but good, has no drawbacks....why wouldn't you?

If anyone can get me a picture of the baffles intact, that'd be cool. I did this years ago and din't take pics, so it'd help other visualize what it is they are removing.

Just to add, as I have been planning to do it but haven't, get rid of the ribs inside the airbox. The airbox and lid are reinforced on the outside, the ribs on the inside are also used to silence the system.

If it isnt too cold this weekend, I'll have a go at it, and post pics. We are having a 150yr record breaking cold spell so, we'll see.

Interesting. I'll have to see if I have the baffles you mention.

The stock snorkel has a resonator on it, right? Have you done/are planning to do anything with it?

The Helmholtz resonator on the intake pipe is not a restriction, leave it alone.

Wouldn't doing this mod give you hot air intake?

Looks to me like the snorkel is still there, pulling air from in front of the radiator.

But if you are getting extra air from around the air filter its not coming from the snorkel

The ONLY inlet to the airbox is through the snorkel port, this is just a baffle inside the airbox.

It still only pulls air through the snorkel. Your just removing noise baffles.

My baffle was removed a long time ago.

It looks like this...

It was under my impression that you are putting holes in the air box so and that'd suck air in that is not coming from the snorkel.

Unless that's not what this mod does and its just increasing the overall flow, I thought it was increasing flow by adding another place for air to breathe into the air box.

Sorry if I seem stupid , I'm really not I just learn alot by seeing pictures and reading, not just one or the other.

You are not making holes.

Take the top of your stock airbox off and look whats on the underside of it.

I've already modded my airbox years ago, and I don't have before pics. These are AFTER pics. If you look at your stock parts, you'll see what I removed.

Did you see holes in any of the pictures he posted? Did he say to cut holes in your airbox at any point? Your skills of comprehension are super-human.

I told you to read more last time...this time I'll say to look at the pictures more, and the important part...post less.

Dude just leave me alone, I'm really getting tired of you telling me what to do, you aren't my father and frankly I really don't care what you have to say, I'm just gonna be me, I'm not changing for you or anyone else.

Treat people the way you want to be treated.

It's definitely a lil louder and has pretty good response but we won't really know without real testing
