My Decision...

Icemark, I stand corrected, you have mentioned the Pulsation Dampener in the FC faq, wished that I had seen that section

And due to the information that I have gained from this latest exchange I have a PD on order and will be replacing it as soon as it arrives.

I have spent too much time and money on this ride to risk an engine fire for a couple of hundred dollars!

Hey anybody want to buy a low mileage PD?

To really get a % of failures, you also need to record the good ones. One small leaker, and one OK here.

I have two, an 84 GSL-SE and an 88 TII. I think the 84 is leaking a little as I can smell some gas when I park in the garage.

The 88 TII engine was just rebuilt by Kevin and I have already installed a new PD. Senseless to put thousands in a car to have a $130 part catch on fire.

And what about Mazda continuing to sell NEW parts that are prone to failure. Seems like they could have improved the part design--then we could all have PDs that don't leak (all they need to do is seal the diaphram off--it can still fail but won't leak).

Well, it's in and I feel better already!

You know there is a small piece of rubber sticking out of the damper, on the new one soft and pliable, on the old one kind of brittle

Probably money well spent!
