How many builders remove exhaust diffusers?

How many builders remove exhaust diffusers?

Is it worth it?

Any other options?

I'm not familiar with any of this part of the engine build at all and I'm curious what your opinions are.

I had mine removed/replaced. I used the ones from T2 and ported the housing to match.
It is easier to replace than to try to grind them down.

Depends on the exhaust in use, if you've got N1's with no cats, and you remove them, you're gonna notice. If you've got cats & stock exhaust you won't notice too much

I removed mine on the NA exaust sleeves.

As far as making it louder, I'd say yes. Mine got 20x louder... but I'm not running stock ports anymore

Really no reason to remove them unless you are porting the exhaust. I've never seen any evidence that the diffusers rob any power.

It'd be nice to get some TII sleeves and swap them...

Removing the sleeves is a small project though.

Are TII diffusers better by any means?

More flow?

TIIs don't have diffusers, just an open free-flow exaust sleeve.

Ah, I understand 95% of this now!

So exhaust diffusers are dumb and I should ditch them?

I did it when i rebuilt my engine can't really say for power gain as the enginein it before was bone stock and fairly tired 220km while the new one is well new with a hefty streetport. It wasnt all that hard to remove the diffusers if you have a little patience theyere are many methods that work but the woodscrew one is by far the besyand works 99% of the time. There was a VERY noticeable difference in noise compartment though it go quite a bit louder after removeal some of this noise couldalso be contributed to porting intakes but i doubt it. After looking at the diffusers i would have to say by there design that they do limit flow a certain extent but everyday driving or even for minor track use it would be best to leave them in. I have recentlyu put a header on my car and open header + Removed diffusers equals earbleeding loudness of a proportion so large i cant even explain, anything more then a 2 minute drive and youd be deaf. I eventually made a custom presilencer for myc ar its 34inches long and 4 1/2 inches across with stock muffler and header and ypipe and that brought her back to almost stock sound with a little rotary rasp with 0 backpressure. I dont think there are any decen mufflers on the market that could even handle the abuse a rotary puts through its exaust properly. Just take this in mind when deciding on diffusers or not.

Exhaust diffusers are the "wings" inside the n/a exhaust sleeves that reduce sound. TII's have exhaust sleeves with no diffusers, or "wings," in them.

If you're porting, swap in TII sleeves. It's not as hard as people think to remove them, so long as you don't care about how pretty it looks (outside not inside the housing). Besides, your header, exhaust manifold, turbo manifold, whatever will cover it up anyways.

could you remove them without rebuiding the engine? they look like some sort of obstruction which would seem to obviously hinder the flow, but maybe it keeps the flow of the exhaust in a spiral or something like that which may alow the gasses to exit with more ease, idk just an idea.

you will probably only notice a 2% increase in power but a bit louder and raspier of an exhaust note. you can port around them to increase power still without adding too much noise.

and no, you can't remove them unless you disassemble the engine.
