Exclamation How Loud Will This Be?

Ok, while I"m waiting for engine parts to come in for rebuilding my 90 N/A, I'm trying to decide on the exhaust.

It's setup is:
90 N/A
Has stock exhaust manifold, but from that it's testpipe to the mufflers(stock Y pipe) and then there's the rusty stock muffler(very holy).

Now, I'm only fixing this up so that I can resell it, so I was going to throw on some good used mufflers(stock).

How loud would it be, I would like to go for a N1 style but there too loud, and I'm hoping the stocks will be quiet!

i gutted my cats to see if clogged up cats were causing a few problems.

i have stock mufflers, tho not as holey, and my car is annoyingly loud. my neighbor call the athorities if i run it late at night.

if you are doing all this just to sell, then i would suggest finding a cat to put on there. doesn't even have to be that great, just something to shut it up.

loud isn't always bad but straight through exhaust on stock muffler sound hideous to me.

good luck, have fun

it will not be too loud really, it will have a nasty tone to it though, but a question crosses my mind why go stock mufflers? Hell, I have stock replacments and I hate them, want them?!

Well, any recommendations for cheap mufflers, I don't want straight through mufflers?

I have straight through mufflers that are actually quieter than the stocks, and they sound much, much better. The stocks sound kind-of like a diseased dirtbike.

Well, should I just go and buy the cheap N1 style straight through fiberglass mufflers that go for like $40usd on ebay?

Maybe pickup a used cat or something out of the junker too?

Don't get a cheap muffler with fiberglass......pretty sure that will just melt and make it sound crappy again. My friend got a muffler with Fiberglass for his 7, now it is all burned out and sounds extremely loud again. Get a straight through Stainless steel muffler, thats what I've got, sounds nice.

Since you are selling, fiberglass bombs will work Ok at the back where the exhaust is cooler. BUT you must have a presilencer (resonator) where the cat was, or it will be TOO LOUD and too hot.
I'm using some cheap "turbo pack" presilencers currently. They keep the sound down and allow the bombs to live.

Ok, I'm looking at something like this guys.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=1876746808

Lemme know what you think, it doesn't say it's fiberglass so maybe I wouldn't need to have a presilencer.

I'm also hoping these will help it sell to(from looks).

It will probably resonate at a certain RPM (like 3500-4000, about hwy cruising speed) and it will drive you nuts. The same thing will happen if you go with a no name cheap "Fart Pipe". I'd replace it with a regular muffler, glass pack, or a quality name brand performance muffler.

I would say between 70-85 db regular driving. a header - pre silencer -aftermarket catback NA FC will easily hit around 95-100 db with regular driving and exceed 110 db once you're in the fun zone

I ran those bombs without the presilencers for two days last summer.
It was WAY LOUD and put a hurt on the bombs.
What you hear is the origonal bombs with the added silencers.

Well, ended up buying cheap bombs off ebay. I'm gonna throw a cat on too from the junkyard prob. They were $200 CDN after shipping.
