How does this sound(boost question)?

Well I am thinking of not getting a catback until I get to porting my wastegate. Will this keep my boost levels down a good amount? Anything wrong with this even if I use a boost controller to raise it back up? Only problem I see is it could make the turbo work harder. Let me know. Thanks.

although i have an S5...porting the wastegate definatly cut down the boost. i have intake, 2.5in DP,MP, and no cats...and i only run about 6-7-8psi in 1-3rd gears at WOT on a cold day. about stock boost levels but its definately quicker than stock

The stock exhaust will help a little, but the biggest restriction is the cats and intake.

It's really not that hard to pull the turbo and port the wastegate, BTW.

Erik, are you running a stock catback or aftermarket? I need to get busy with the grinder and hog more out of my wastegate. With a cone intake, MP, DP, and N1 catback I'm still seeing 13+ psi. I ported the wastegate a few months ago, but I just dropped in another engine and it's #1. Making LOADS more power (on and off boost) than the old one and #2. Making way more boost than the old one.

I'd love to get this thing down under 8psi, as right now it's starting to detonate. (I'm gonna try and talk my boss into letting me buy some of his 118 octane race fuel for kicks)

well, i have the RP 50mm catback on my T2...it was on it when i bought the car. buuuut, i think its actually smaller than stock!!! haha. 50mm is only 2 inches. i'm sure thats restricting the boost somewhat in the higher rpm's...

i have the turbo N1 catback on my n/a (which i put on a few years ago) and want to swap the two...just need to order some new gaskets. maybe the N1 would raise the boost naturally 2psi or so?

Yeah, the 50mm is kinda winky for a turbo. You'd be better off swapping the exhausts between cars if you don't mind the added boost.

Do you think the stock catback can keep me down to 10# or no? All I know is it was a PITA to get the DP on there with the little space there is to get to those bolts so I will have to have some time to get pissed and get the **** off. So while we're on the subject wheres a good write-up of how to port the S4 WG? Thanks.

Oh...and my car will be done tomorrow...can't wait!!

As for porting the WG, theres a sticky on top that describes a "new" process of doing it, and there's the older one which you can find at RETed's site at www.fc3s-pro.com

Anything that will inhibit airflow either incoming or exiting will help keep the boost down. A stock airbox and/or a stock catback will usually keep things under 10.

Ted has writeups on just about everything, just hunt around there and you'll find LOADS of good info.
